Fire Claims Local Home
Milam fire

An early morning fire has destroyed a local family’s home and claimed all of their belongings.

According to Assistant Chief Anthony Boyd with the DeKalb County Fire Department, on Sunday, February 12, at 3:45 am, the DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 738 New Home Road.

Main Station Engine 59, Cookeville Highway Engine 61, Liberty Engine 65, Temperance Hall Engine 67, Tanker 1, Tanker 2, a unit with DeKalb EMS, and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, fire crews found the home of James and Ashley Milam with fire on the roof and attic area of the residence. The family was not home at the time of the fire.

Fire crews worked to contain the fire but the home and all of its contents were a total loss. The cause of the blaze is undetermined
