DeKalb County firefighters were called to the scene of a garage fire last week that threatened other nearby structures.
E-911 dispatchers received a call reporting the blaze at the home of Davey Ferrell at 4231 Seven Springs Road. According to DeKalb County Fire Chief Donny Green, Ferrell had been working on a tiller inside a garage at the residence and had left to go to his barn. Later, he reported hearing his dogs barking and when he went out to investigate, he noticed the garage with flames coming out of its roof.
Main Station Engine 59, Short Mountain Highway Engine 62, and Tanker Truck of the DeKalb County Fire Department responded to the scene, along with DeKalb EMS and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department.
Fire crews worked to contain the blaze, but the structure and its contents were a total loss. Ferrell reported that a boat and all other contents were destroyed, but he was able to move three vehicles away from the burning building.
The cause of the fire was undetermined, but is suspected to have started from the tiller Ferrell had been working on. No one was injured during the incident.
