Local firefighters responded to the scene of a house fire last Sunday that quickly spread to the nearby woods and threatened other property and structures. Fire crews worked to contain the blaze, but the home and sadly two pets were claimed by the flames.
According to DeKalb County Fire Chief Donny Green, at 11:37 a.m., DeKalb County Fire was dispatched to a structure fire at the home of Anthony W. Mickle, Jr. and Ronda Mickle at 1095 Lakeview Drive in Lakeview Mountain Estates. Main Station Engine 59, Brush Truck, Tanker 1, Cookeville Highway Engine 61, Liberty Engine 65, the Rehab Team, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, and DeKalb County EMS responded to the incident. The Tennessee Division of Forestry was also called in to assist with the wildland fire.
Upon arrival, the structure was found to be fully involved and had spread into a steep wooded area. The homeowners were not home at the time of the incident. Firefighters worked quickly to gain control of the fire and protect other nearby threatened structures, but the two-story home, its contents, and two dogs were lost in the fire.
The Red Cross was also dispatched to assist the owners with their immediate needs. There were approximately 13 acres of woodland burned and four other structures threatened.
