The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department made several arrests over the past couple of weeks, including that of a man wanted on a fugitive warrant.

Sherriff Patrick Ray told the Smithville Review that on June 1, 40-year-old Joshua Leslie Johnson of Hendrixson Road, Smithville, was charged with being a fugitive from justice, evading arrest, tampering with evidence, and methamphetamine manufacture, deliver, sell or possess. He is under a $150,000 bond and is set to appear in court on June 16.

Sheriff Ray said that a patrolling deputy observed a blue Kia failing to stop at a stop sign. The deputy initiated his lights and sirens, but the Kia failed to stop and traveled for another two miles before coming to a stop at the corner of Bright Hill Road and Dearman Street.

During the pursuit, the deputy observed a small bag being thrown from the vehicle as well as a shiny object. Deputies were able to locate the items, which turned out to be a small baggy containing 2 grams of a crystal-like substance believed to be meth, and a glass pipe.

Johnson was found to be wanted by the State of Georgia Board of Corrections for a parole violation, with a full extradition order confirmed by E-911 dispatch.

On May 25, 44-year-old Angie Leanna Hollingsworth of Kings Court, Smithville, was arrested for filing a false report. She is under a $3,500 bond and is due to appear in court on June 8.

On April 1, 2021, a Sheriff’s Department deputy went to Meadowbrook Drive in an attempt to locate a subject wanted on an active warrant. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Hollingsworth. The deputy asked her if the person he was looking for was at the residence, and she advised that he was not and that he was in Murfreesboro. After getting Hollingsworth’s permission to come inside the residence, the wanted person was found inside.

May 29, 50-year-old Jason Morris Moore of Four Season’s Road, Smithville, was charged with evading arrest, tampering with evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia, no insurance, and light law. He is under an $8,500 bond and is due in court on June 16.

Sheriff Ray said that a deputy attempted a traffic stop on a red Ford Explorer driven by Moore on East Broad Street in Smithville. After the deputy initiated lights and sirens, Moore fled down Sparta Highway at a high rate of speed in an attempt to evade law enforcement.

The deputy allegedly noticed Moore tossing several items out of his window during the pursuit. One that was recovered was a black bag containing drug paraphernalia and pills. After speaking with Moore, he allegedly admitted to throwing the items out the window during the pursuit.

On May 31, 32-year-old Cameron Renee Page of North Judkins Lane, Smithville, was charged with domestic assault. He is under a $10,000 bond and he is set to appear in court on June 16.

A deputy responded to North Judkins Lane on a call of a domestic dispute between husband and wife. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with Page and a female. The woman stated that she and Page had been in a verbal argument when it turned physical. She alleged that Page had pushed her against a vehicle and threw her to the ground on the gravel of the driveway.

Sheriff’s officials say the woman had marks from Page grabbing her, and from the rocks in the driveway. Their 15-year-old daughter witnessed the incident and notified 911.

On June 4, 29-year-old Dalton Grady Moore of Poss Road, Smithville, was arrested for domestic assault. He is under a $3,500 bond and is due in court on June 23.

According to Sheriff Ray, a deputy was dispatched to Poss Road on a report of an assault and an unwanted guest. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a male subject and Moore.

The male stated that he and Moore had been in a verbal argument that turned physical. The male stated that Moore had hit him in the face multiple times, causing his glasses to cut underneath his right eye, blackening his eye and causing him to fall and scrape his elbow.

That same day, 20-year-old Joseph Blake Dunford of Standing Rockwell Road, Jamestown, TN, was arrested for under aged driving while impaired. He is under a $1,500 bond and is set to be in court on June 30.

A deputy observed a blue Nissan Altima at a high rate of speed. After catching up with the vehicle, and pacing it at 86 miles per hour, the deputy conducted a traffic stop and performed standardized field sobriety tests, which Dunford performed poorly. He allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana and drinking three 16-ounce Twisted Teas 30 minutes prior to the traffic stop. The deputy found a small bag of marijuana and three Twisted Tea in the car.

On June 5, 35-year-old Jose Carlos Flores of Vaughn Lane, Smithville, was charged with driving under the influence first offense. He is under a $1,500 bond and is due in court on June 30.

A deputy observed a black Ford car with no tail lights, traveling west on South Mountain Street that almost struck another vehicle. The deputy initiated his blue lights and the vehicle came to a stop a quarter of a mile later. The deputy made contact with Flores.

Authorities say that a strong odor of alcohol was coming from the vehicle, and that Flores was unsteady on his feet and could not follow instructions during a field sobriety test. Open containers were reportedly found in the back floorboards of the vehicle.
