Gas prices are hitting historic lows going into the New Year, most stations in the state selling 87 octane for less than $2 per gallon.
According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the average price per gallon in Tennessee was $2.03 as of Dec. 28, the mark being 10 cents a gallon less than it was on New Year’s Day 2018. The cost per gallon is the lowest in three years. In DeKalb County, prices had plunged as low as $1.85 per gallon going into the New Year at some stations.
The decrease in gas prices is nationwide as AAA reports the average price per gallon is down 61 cents since October with the national average per gallon being $2.29.
The reason for the drop in price comes due to weakness in the stock market and oversupply of crude.
