A Smithville man led a sheriff’s detective on a short car chase with a stolen firearm and drugs in his possession.

Jere Raymond Green, 22, of Smithville was arrested Oct. 1 after a brief car chase. He was charged with Possession of drug paraphernalia, possession controlled sub/sale or delivery/mfg., theft of property, meth/mfg/del/dell/poss, evading arrest and no valid driver’s license.

On Oct. 1, a sheriff’s department detective saw Green driving a gold GMC Yukon, and had knowledge that he did not have a valid driver’s license. When the detective initiated the blue lights, Green refused to stop and began to evade. The short chase ended on South Mountain Street. Once stopped Green got out of the vehicle and threw something into the woods. Once retrieved the item turned out to be a stolen Glock 48 9 millimeter. Illegal narcotics were also recovered. A white bag was recovered just outside of the vehicle which contained a glass pipe, a baggie containing a substance believed to be methamphetamine weighing 3.75 grams and a baggie containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana weighing 8. 84 grams. He had $4,755 in cash on him which was seized as proceeds from drug transactions.

Michael Steven Connors, 51, of Dowelltown was arrested Sept. 22 for violation of order of protection. Sheriff Patrick Ray said a sheriff’s deputy conducted a stop on Sept. 22 on a vehicle which had trash flying out of the back. During the stop, the deputy was notified by dispatch that the female passenger was a protected person under an active order of protection against the driver, Connors. He was arrested.

Christopher Lee Cunningham, 30, of Smithville was arrested Sept. 29 for theft of property. The charges come from Sept. 4 where Cunningham stole various games and gaming consoles from a residence on Short Mountain Highway. He was staying at the property but was not given permission to take the property. The stolen items were an estimated value of $1,580. Cunningham sold some of the stolen items to GameXChange in McMinnville.

Daniel Argenis Valladares, 23, of Smithville was arrested Oct. 5 for public intoxication. A deputy was dispatched to a location on Cecil Hale Road for a possible domestic. Valladares, the husband, had left walking. When approached he was very unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol with slurred speech.
