High Speed Chases Result in Arrests

Local law enforcement had a busy week with three separate high speed chases that ended with arrests.

Justin McCoy of Nashville, TN, was charged with several charges in DeKalb County after an assault, and high speed chase.

Chief Deputy Robert Patrick, on behalf of Sheriff Patrick Ray, said that on August 23, a deputy responded to Nashville Highway for a domestic disturbance call. Upon arrival the victim advised that her ex-boyfriend, McCoy, had grabbed her by the hair and pushed her away. When she turned around he hit her with a lamp in the face. She reportedly had cuts on her face and neck, along with a bruise on her right breast. McCoy fled the scene before deputies arrived. McCoy then allegedly stole his ex-girlfriends car and fled the scene.

On September 9, McCoy, wanted on multiple felony warrants, led law enforcement agencies on a multi-county pursuit at speeds over 100 miles per hour, placing the general public in danger.

According to authorities, McCoy entered a residence on Nashville Highway with a handgun where six juveniles were present. He allegedly pulled an AC unit out of a window and entered the home. The children witnessed McCoy put the gun to their mother and her boyfriend’s head and threaten to kill them. His conduct placed all of the residents in emanate danger.

Later, a deputy attempted to pull McCoy over on Nashville Highway, but the man fled, entering Wilson County. McCoy was eventually stopped on I-40 by Wilson County deputies using spike strips. There he was given multiple commands to step out of the vehicle, which he refused. Officers had to use physical force to remove then man from the vehicle and place him in custody.

He is charged with two counts of reckless endangerment, domestic assault, evading arrest, vandalism, aggravated burglary, two counts of aggravated assault, resisting stop halt frisk or search, and theft of property. He is under a $70,400 bond.

On Friday, September 10, at approximately 3:15 p.m. Tyler Shawn Fowler, 26, of Lebanon, TN, led Smithville Police on a chase down Short Mountain Highway. Fowler was reportedly armed and dangerous, and was wanted for aggravated kidnapping out of DeKalb County.

Lt. James Cornelius of the Smithville Police Department had activated his blue lights to initiate a traffic stop on Meadowbrook Drive, but Fowler refused to stop and led police and deputies on a chase through the city and into the county down Short Mountain Highway. Fowler would later crash on a side road and flee on foot.

A manhunt ensued and Fowler was arrested an hour and a half after the chase initially began. THP Trooper Bobby Johnson, Trooper Cothron and K-9 Officer Draco located Fowler hiding and covered by vegetation. Fowler reportedly refused authorities commands and Draco was deployed to secure the man.

Fowler is charged with statutory rape, and felony evading arrests. He is under a $30,000 bond and is due in court on September 30.

  Aubrey Glenn Rigsby of the Blue Springs community was charged with multiple offenses stemming from an incident on August 4.

Officials say that a deputy observed a white male operating a gold Nissan Maxima not wearing a seatbelt. The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver took off at a high rate of speed on Lakeview Drive, then turning onto Cookeville Highway. Authorities say speeds during the pursuit reached an excess of 90 miles an hour, passing vehicles on the right shoulder of the roadway.

The vehicle then turned down Coconut Ridge Road at a high rate of speed, where the driver almost hit a semi head on. The vehicle then turned into a driveway at 2862 Coconut Ridge Road, where he began to flee on foot. He was later arrested.

Rigsby was found to have a suspended license and a failure to appear in court warrant. Rigsby also has four prior driving on suspended convictions. He is charged with driving on a suspended license, evading arrest, reckless endangerment, and is under a total $35,000 bond on those charges. He also has an OR bond for violation of probation and an FTA $1,000 bond out of General Sessions Court. He is due in court on September 16.
