Seven people were involved in a scary crash last weekend, leaving four vehicles damaged, two of which were overturned. Officials say that though several cars were totaled, only minor injuries were reported.
On Saturday, June 18, at 6:01 p.m. E-911 dispatchers received a call reporting a multi-vehicle car crash on Highway 96 (Murfreesboro Highway) near the intersection on Old Highway 96 Road. Deputies with the DeKalb Sheriff’s Department, DeKalb EMS, and Engine 65 with the DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, along with Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Richard Teachout.
Upon arrival, rescuers found two vehicles overturned and two others with damage. According to Trooper Teachout, 19-year-old Patrick Joseph McGann of Marietta, GA, was driving west in a black 2016 Toyota Tacoma with a passenger, 19-year-old Emme Elizabeth Eusepi of Smyrna, TN.
At the same time, 25-year-old Kaylee Megan Hale of Dowelltown, was traveling east in a white 2022 Toyota Highlander and a six-year-old child, 54-year-old Anne Camden White of Dowelltown, was in a white 2013 Toyota Sienna van, and 57-year-old Philip James Gotro of Dowelltown, was in a black 2013 Kia Sorento, with a passenger Passenger 61-year-old Cheryl Ann Gotro.
THP says that McGann failed to maintain his lane of travel and crossed the center line, into the path of Hale’s Highlander. The Tacoma hit the Highlander, causing Hale’s vehicle to overturn. White’s Sienna was then hit by debris from the crash, causing minor damage.
McGann’s Tacoma then continued to travel, striking Gotro’s Sorento, causing it to overturn on its side. McGann’s vehicle then hit the face of a guardrail and came to rest in a field.
Both Philip and Cheryl Gotro reported minor injuries and were transported to Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital by DeKalb EMS. No other injuries were reported.
McGann was cited for failure to maintain lane of travel.
