An early morning fire destroyed a local woman’s home last Friday, claiming all of the woman’s belongings. Fire crews worked to contain the blaze, but the house was a total loss.
According to DeKalb Fire Chief Donny Green, E-911 received a call reporting the blaze at 4:23 am. The owner, Leanna Mongar at 470 Rolling Acres Road, reported that she had been making breakfast before going to work. She said grease splashed on the stove and erupted in flames. The woman tried to extinguish the fire, but it soon got out of control.
Cookeville Highway Engine 61, Tanker 1, Main Station Engine 59, Liberty Engine 65, Midway Engine 63, and Temperance Hall Engine 67 with the DeKalb County Fire Department, along with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and DeKalb County Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the home with heavy flames coming from the structure. Flames venting through the roof of the home and crews worked diligently to gain control of the fire, but unfortunately the house was a complete loss.
Mongar lost all belongings in the blaze and the Red Cross was called to assist the family with immediate lodging and personal needs. No injuries were reported.
