The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department didn’t have to look far to make arrests last week, charging three inmates with assault on another inmate at the DeKalb County Jail.
Sheriff Patrick Ray told the Smithville Review that 47-year-old Gregory Michael Patton of Oak Place Drive, Smithville, 37-year-old Eric Wayne Tramel of Circle Drive, Dowelltown, and 55-year-old Ricky Lynn Murphy of Ferrell Road, Smithville, are each charged with assault for the incident.
On June 25, while incarcerated at the DeKalb County Jail, Patton, Tramel, and Murphy, all inmates at the jail, allegedly assaulted a fellow inmate, punching and kicking him about his face and body causing injury. The victim was reportedly bleeding from his bottom lip and complained of possible rib injuries.
All three are due in court on July 13, and each is under a $4,000 bond.
That same day, 52-year-old Vickie Lenae Alvis of Luttrell Drive, Smithville, was arrested for resisting frisk stop halt search or arrest.
A deputy responded to High Street in Alexandria to serve a warrant on Alvis. The deputy made contact with the woman inside the residence, when she ran down the hall of the home, into a bathroom, and locked the door. As the deputy attempted to make entry into the bathroom, Alvis crawled out of a window. She was later taken into custody.
Alvis is under a $4,000 bond and is set to appear in court on July 13.
On July 3, 18-year-old Pablo Cruz Hernandez of Guthrie Road, McMinnville, was arrested for criminal impersonation and under-aged driving while impaired. He is under a total bond of $5,000.
A deputy was patrolling Bethel Road when he initiated a traffic stop on a beige Ford Freestyle for failing to maintain its lane of travel. Upon making contact with the driver, Hernandez, the man stated that his date of birth was November 21, 2002. He was reported as having an odor of alcohol coming from his person, bloodshot eyes, and was unsteady on his feet. There were also multiple open containers in plain view inside the vehicle.
Hernandez submitted to field sobriety tasks, but performed poorly. He allegedly admitted to drinking four beers earlier that evening. He was later placed under arrest for driving under the influence and transported to the sheriff’s office for booking. There, Hernandez stated that his date of birth was November 21, 2001.
After further investigation, Hernandez reportedly stated to deputies that he had lied about his date of birth in an attempt to make officers believe he was of drinking age. His real date of birth was November 9, 2004.
Also on July 3, 18-year-old Brayden Kelley Ferrell of Short Mountain Highway, Smithville, was arrested for aggravated assault. He is under a $2,500 bond.
Sheriff Ray said that a deputy was dispatched to Tabernacle Road, Smithville, to meet with an individual about a reported assault on Short Mountain Highway. The deputy made contact with a man and a woman who advised that they went to a residence on Short Mountain Highway in an attempt to find their daughter.
The couple reported that when they pulled in the driveway, their daughter’s ex-boyfriend, Ferrell, motioned for the female to exit the vehicle to talk. After, Ferrell’s father came outside and got into an altercation with the male, when Ferrell pulled a gun and put it to the man’s head.
On the Fourth of July, 54-year-old Burnette “Bernie” Jones of Andrew Street, Smithville, was charged with public intoxication. He is under a $2,500 bond and set to be in court on July 20.
A patrolling deputy made contact with Jones lying on the ground, asleep, in the middle of the Taco Bell parking lot. When the deputy woke Jones, he became irate and reportedly was talking out of his head. Jones then began pacing around the parking lot and seemed to be under the influence of narcotics. For the safety of himself and the public, he was placed under arrest.
On May 30, 43-year-old Rocky Amon Scarlett of Ditty Road, Cookeville, was charged with domestic assault. He is under a $2,500 bond and due in court on July 13.
A deputy responded to Poplar Street, Smithville, for a report of a domestic assault. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a female, who stated that her boyfriend, Scarlett, hit her in the head. The woman allegedly had red marks on the left side of her forehead and head. She also had a scratch on the right side of her chin and on her left hand.
Scarlett had left the scene before law enforcement arrived. A warrant was issued and he was later arrested.
On July 9, 46-year-old Terry Lee Wildes of Scott Acres Road, Smithville, was arrested on a fugitive from justice warrant.
A deputy made contact with a vehicle on Allen Ferry Road that was failing to maintain its lane of travel. After stopping the vehicle, the deputy made contact with a passenger, Wildes, and after running his name through NCIC it was revealed that he had a warrant out of Louisa County, VA.
Virginia advised that they would extradite Wildes on felony assault on a family member, third offence, and two counts of fleeing from law enforcement.
