A pair of inmates got a taste of freedom Tuesday afternoon but the taste turned sour after they were collared five minutes after they broke out, still in shouting distance of the lock up.
The inmates, Thomas Nix and Anthony Williams scaled the fence around the exercise yard and were able to get free from custody, still wearing their jail orange and white jump suits, and sprint toward Broad Street with corrections officers in hot pursuit.
They were soon surrounded; however, by elements of the city and county law enforcement agencies and taken into custody near the College Street Bridge. They were returned to the same jail they escaped about 10 minutes after they started their ill-fated sprint to freedom. They will now face escape charges.
