Veterans Service Officer Ready To Assist

Are you a veteran in need of assistance? DeKalb County has a Veteran’s Service Officer ready to help you., not only with filing claims, but for conversations about your service. Officer Erica Degni is located on the first floor of the DeKalb County Courthouse and is ready to offer assistance. She is available for in-office visits each Tuesday and Thursday or can be reached by calling 615-597-3003. DeKalb County appreciates the service of all veterans and is proud to provide this service.

 

FCE Meetings

The FCE will be meeting the 2nd Tuesday of each month. The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. at the DeKalb County Complex in the Motlow Conference room. Everyone is invited to attend.

 

UCDD

Are you raising a relative child or need housing assistance? For more information on assistance and support, please contact Melissa Allison at the Upper Cumberland Development District toll-free at 1-800-275-8233. A support group meeting will be held for relatives caring for relative children during the month. Please contact Melissa Allison at 931-476-4127. If you are interested in attending this meeting. For housing assistance, while caring for a minor child, please contact Myra Walker.

 

Bank Cemetery Decoration Week-end

The annual decoration at Bank’s Cemetery in DeKalb County will be held May 31, June 1, and June 2, 2024. Please plan to attend. Your support is needed to keep the cemetery properly maintained and kept looking nice. Someone will be onsite during decoration days to accept donations or they may be mailed to: Melinda Davis, Treasurer 2807 Blue Springs Rd. American Legion #122 Memorial Day Event

An American Legion #122 Memorial Day Event will be May 25 at the DeKalb County Complex Auditorium starting at 9 a.m. with patriotic music by Susan Hinton. The program will also include the presentation of colors followed by the pledge of allegiance and then the Star-Spangled Banner and prayer at 9:45 a.m. Judy Redmon of the American Legion Auxiliary #122 will introduce the speaker Ralph Vaughn at 10:00a.m. Following the program a laying of the wreath observance will be held at the courthouse veteran’s monument led by Commander Jerry Hinton, Adjutant Ronnie

Redmon, and veterans.

 

UCHRA Commodity Distribution

The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency will hold a commodities distribution for DeKalb County on Thursday, June 27, from 9 until 11 a.m. at the DeKalb County UCHRA office. Sign-up will be available at the distribution site.

This project is funded under a Grant Contract with the State of Tennessee.

 

VBS “Stellar”

This VBS will be held at Smithville First Free Will Baptist Church, 500 Bright Hill Rd, Smithville, TN. Join us on May 26-May 30 from 6pm to 8pm. This will be a week of learning, food and fun! Register early on Facebook.

Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser, June 1

The DeKalb County Fire Department, Temperance Hall Unit #67 will have a Pancake Breakfast on June 1, 2024 from 7a.m. to 10 a.m. this will be held at S. Congress Blvd., Smithville, TN 37166. Admission: Adults ticket $10, Child ticket (ages 4-10) $5, and 3 and under free. Wilson Bank & Trust in Smithville will have tickets or tickets are available at the door.

Parkinson’s Support Group, June 4

The Parkinson’s support group will meet June 4 at 10 a.m. Our speaker will be Attorney Ashley Waters on the subject of estate planning. We meet at Caney Fork Baptist Church, 2404 Hwy. 70S Cookeville. Call Laura at 931-319-0309 with any questions.

DeKalb County Library Board Meeting

The DeKalb County Library Board will have their bi-monthly meeting at Justin Potter Library on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 4p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

VBS, Scuba, June 10 -14

The 2024 VBS “Scuba”, Diving into Friendship with God” will be held at Old Fashion Freewill Baptist Church 3005 Blue Springs Road, Smithville, TN, June 10-14 from 6p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Everyone is invited.

Justin Potter & Alexandria Libraries Summer Reading Program, June 24

The Justin Potter and Alexandria Libraries Summer Reading Program will begin on June 6 and end on June 27. All events for both libraries will be in the DeKalb County Complex Theatre Room at 2 p.m. Children of all ages can begin registering for Summer Reading at both libraries on May 28. Each child that registers and meets their goal will receive a participation certificate and other goodies at the end of the Summer Reading Program.

Adventure begins at your library programs include the following events:

Thursday, June 6 at 2p.m.- Opening party with Mr. Bond’s Science Guys and DTC Photo booth

Thursday 13 at 2p.m.- Barry Mitchell’s “Adventures in fun with a chicken”

Thursday June 20 at 2p.m.-Edgar Evins State Park Rangers and Animal Friends

Thursday, June 27 at 2p.m.- Final party with Bob Tartar’s Animalogy Critters.
