A man faces assault charges after he slugged an officer who was trying to arrest him for a running from the law days before.

The suspect, David Wayne Kirby 48, of Walling is charged with evading arrest, resisting stop, criminal impersonation and assault. He is due in court Oct. 25 to answer to the allegations.

The assault on an officer came two days after Kirby ran from lawmen who were trying to pull him over. Kirby ultimately crashed into a fence and was able to elude capture for two days until he was found in the Whorton Springs area. Officers went there to investigate a suspicious person call and found him. When asked who he was, Kirby reportedly gave them a false name. When the deputy questioned his story, Kirby tried to run again but the officer was able to grab him before he got away. That is when Kirby reportedly punched the officer in the head. The deputy was able to subdue him and place him in handcuffs after being assaulted.
