A man found standing in the middle of the street with a knife in one hand and a bottle of whisky in the other has been charged with disorderly conduct.

The suspect, Cody Wade Foster, 33, of Bright Hill Road at first told the Smithville Police officer that he would “have to shoot him” when the lawman responded to a call of a drunk in the road on Morgan Drive. Just as the caller suggested, Foster was standing in the middle of the street with a bottle of liquor and a knife.

“He was yelling at the officer, telling him he was going to have to shoot him,” the police report revealed of the standoff that began when Foster became defensive about the lawman’s presence.

However, the officer was able to reason with the knife-wielding man. “After the officer talked with him several minutes, he dropped the knife and was taken into custody without incident.

In addition to disorderly conduct, Foster was hit with public intoxication charges.
