Let The Splashing Begin!
Leeann Judkins

Wait for it!  It’s breaking news.  The Smithville City swimming pool WILL BE OPEN this summer.  The opening day is scheduled for Monday, May 27, 2024.

No Joke!  In a Monday interview with Mayor Josh Miller, he emphatically and blissfully remarked that the pool would reopen around Memorial Day when local schools would be in recess.  The completion date is somewhat questionable. “It’s totally contingent upon the amount of work we can get done.” Today, work on the swimming pool is progressing daily,” the mayor continued/

Let the fun and splashing begin!  The mayor said that work has begun and is continuing, on the pool, preparing for opening day.  Last year, the non-opening of the swimming pool was blamed on not having an adequate number of lifeguards.  Ultimately, it remained closed and children had to look elsewhere for something to occupy their time.

Today, said Miller, “We absolutely have enough total lifeguards.  Last year, we did not.”  This news is so current that many other plans regarding the pool’s operations have yet to be made and materialized.  Let it be known that hundreds of dollars have and are being spent to safely update the pool and the surrounding areas.  I know.  I used to swim in the pool when I was a child in elementary school.  Hours of operation, costs, etc. have yet to be determined but all incoming cumulative information will be posted in a like and timely manner.

The Olympic-size pool is located at 430 Golf Club Drive and is a part of the Smithville Golf Course in Smithville, Tennessee.
