The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department only made two arrests last week, both involving domestic situations.

Sheriff Patrick Ray told the Smithville Review that on June 15, 34-year-old Gary Christopher Ponder of South College Street, Smithville, was arrested for violation of an order of protection. He is under a $3,500 bond and he is due in court on June 30.

Authorities allege that on June 5, Ponder knowingly and intentionally violated an order of protection. A deputy went to South College Street, looking for a wanted person, when the deputy noticed a bicycle belonging to Ponder outside of a residence of a female who had an active order of protection against him.

After getting the female to the door, the deputy asked if ponder was there, and the woman reportedly told the officer that he was in the bedroom.

A 43-year-old Smithville man was arrested twice involving domestic cases. Sheriff Ray said that Benjamin Theodore Taylor of Lee Braswell Road, was arrested on May 14, for domestic assault. He is under a $5,000 bond and he will appear in court on June 30.

A deputy responded to Mt Pisgah Freewill Baptist Church to speak with a female regarding a domestic violence situation. The female advised that her boyfriend, Taylor, had grabbed her lower left forearm causing scratches and bruising. The woman also said that Taylor had ripped her shirt as well. Authorities say that the woman did have physical injuries that were visible. Taylor was later arrested.

Taylor was arrested again on June 15 for violation of bond conditions. He is under a $7,500 bond for those charges and will be in court on June 30.

On June 15, a deputy responded to the Sheriff’s Department to speak with the same female in reference to her being contacted by her ex-boyfriend, Taylor. The woman advised that Taylor had gone to her cousin’s house while she was there and threatened her.  Taylor was again placed in custody.
