Love Lights a Tree raised over $1,100 this holiday season as over 170 names adorned the courthouse board before it was taken down this week.

“We appreciate anything we can get,” said Iva Dell Randolph, noting the proceeds will be added to the Relay for Life totals when the annual event happens this May.

Love Lights a Tree was formed about 20 years ago to coincide with the Christmas season. “It’s a way to honor and remember,” she said, noting that while most names appearing on the board were those of people who had cancer, some names were simply to honor the memory of the person.

The board, which was located beside the courthouse, was put up in time for the Christmas parade and remained there until this past week. The names of those in whose name donations were made were placed on the board for the public to see.

“It’s amazing because you can see people at all hours stopping there to read the names,” she said, noting nomination forms were available at the local banks where donations could be made and the names submitted.

While Love Lights a Tree is over until next year, the effort is still in full swing as plans are being made for Relay For Life. “If you would like to form a team – it could be a family, church, business or organization, let us know because we can use everyone’s help,” she said, noting you can contact her directly at 615-597-5296 with any questions.
