A local man faces a veritable life sentence after he was indicted on the charge of aggravated child rape – a crime that carries up to 25 years per count.
Ruben Alavez Majia, 23, was indicted Monday by the DeKalb County grand jury for having sex with a 12-year-old girl on numerous occasions. The incidents date back to when the girl was 11 and carry 15 to 25 years apiece if convicted. The crime of child rape does not allow early release through parole, meaning he will have to serve 100 percent of any time he receives for the Class A Felony. He was arrested this past December on the charge.
Majia had another brush with the law this past September when he was cited for DUI, no license, violation of due Care, and financial responsibility. Police responded to the bridge at the intersection of Broad and South Mountain Street where Mejia had crashed head on into the bridge. Mejia was unable to stand on his own, had blood shot eyes, a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his person, and passed out on scene. He was transported to the emergency room.
