The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department had a relatively quiet week, despite arresting a Dowelltown man after he attacked another man with a machete.

Sheriff Patrick Ray told the Smithville Review that on November 27, 61-year-old Juilio Neisa Hernandez of West Main Street, Dowelltown, was arrested for aggravated assault. He is under a $50,000 bond, and is due in court on December 15.

Sheriff Ray said that a deputy responded to West Main Street in Dowelltown on a report of a domestic.

Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a male subject, on the ground, with a large cut to his head which was bleeding profusely.

While speaking to the victim and other witnesses, it was learned that Hernandez and the victim had been in an argument, when Hernandez hit the victim with a machete, causing him to fall of the porch of the home.

Hernandez was placed in custody.

On November 18, 24-year-old Alicia Leanne Miller of Adams Bowles Road, Tompkinsville, Ky., was arrested for public intoxication. She is under a $1,500 bond and she is due to appear in court on December 1.

A DeKalb County deputy responded to Midnight Express on Sparta Highway on a report of an unwanted guest who was allegedly highly intoxicated. The deputy made contact with a security guard who advised that he had a former employee there who was intoxicated. She was asked to leave multiple times and was reportedly causing problems inside the business.

The deputy then made contact with Miller, who reportedly had a strong odor of alcohol coming from her person and was unsteady on her feet. The deputy also reported that the woman had slurred speech and glossy eyes. Due to the woman being a danger to herself and others, she was placed under arrest.

On November 21, 52-year-old John William Jones of Johnsons Chapel Road, Sparta, was arrested for a violation of an order of protection. He is under a $2,500 bond and he is set to appear in court on December 15.

Jones had been served with an order of protection that day, but returned to the residence anyway. He was then placed into custody.

On November 27, 40-year-old Jimmy Joel Farris of Highland Street, Smithville, was arrested for operating a vehicle with no driver’s license. He is under a $2,500 bond and he is set to appear in court on December 15.

A deputy witnessed Farris driving on West Broad Street in Smithville.

The deputy, and other deputies, had previously given Farris multiple warnings and citations for driving without a license.

That same day, 36-year-old Matthew James Savage of Bell Street Apartments, Smithville, was arrested for driving under the influence first offense.

He is under a $1,500 bond and he will be in court on December 15.

A deputy witnessed a black GMC truck leave its lane of travel. After a traffic stop, the deputy made contact with Savage, who reportedly advised that he had drank multiple alcoholic beverages.

Authorities say that the man had a strong smell of alcohol coming from his person, and submitted to field sobriety tasks, but performed poorly.

The deputy also located an open cocktail inside the man’s cup holder in the vehicle.
