According to DeKalb County Sheriff Patrick Ray, on July 3, 21-year-old Tyler James Bastyr of Lascassas Pike, Lascassas, TN, was arrested for DUI, resisting arrest, assault on a first responder, and leaving the scene of an accident. He is under a $17,000 bond and is due in court on July 24.
Sheriff Ray said that a deputy was dispatched to Sparta Highway in reference to an unwanted guest. Before the deputy’s arrival, the deputy made contact with a white Ford F-450, partially in a ditch in front of a residence, on Sparta Highway.
The deputy spoke with multiple subjects around the vehicle, and a witness on the scene stated that a male subject, in a red flannel shirt, left the Midnight Express earlier in the Ford F-450. Later, when the witness saw the F-450 in the ditch, he stopped to check but the driver had already left the scene.
The caller to 911, stated that a male subject in a red flannel shirt, later identified as Bastyr, was on her back porch possibly intoxicated. Bastyr was later located in the woods behind the home. He allegedly smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes, and he was unsteady on his feet.
Sheriff Ray said that while attempting to place Bastyr custody, the man kicked one of the deputies and tried to take an officer’s taser. Another deputy deployed his taser to gain control and place Bastyr in hand restraints.
On June 30, 37-year-old
Sheriff Ray said that a deputy was dispatched to Old Snow Hill Road on a report of a domestic. Upon arrival the deputy spoke with a female who advised that she and Mausey had gotten into a verbal argument when Mausey allegedly said he was “going to put a bullet in her head.”
The argument then turned physical after Mausey allegedly pushed her into the wall and then to the ground. Mausey then allegedly put his hands and forearm around her throat attempting to strangle her to the point that she could not breath, causing the woman to fear that he was going to cause serious bodily injury to her. The victim reportedly had a red mark on her throat, under the jaw line, going from ear to ear.
On July 1, 45-year-old Robert James Clay was arrested for driving on a revoked/suspended license second offense. He is under a $3,000 bond and will be in court July 17.
Sheriff Ray said that around 11:47 p.m. a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a brown Toyota due to an expired registration and unconfirmed insurance. The deputy made contact with the driver, Clay, and after a background check it was found that his license was suspended due to unpaid fines. Clay was convicted for driving on a revoked license September 3, 2020.
On July 5, 59-year-old Richard Clifton Warner, Sr. of Whorton Springs Road, Smithville, was arrested for public intoxication and resisting arrest. He is under a $5,000 bond and will be in court on July 17.
According to Sheriff Ray, Warner was found walking on a public roadway while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage placing his life in danger and that he resisted arrest when he pulled away from a deputy trying to detain him.

Sheriff Ray said that at around 11:16 p.m. a deputy was called to check out a suspicious person at Pates Ford Marina on Jefferson Road. Upon arrival the deputy spoke with security guards who were standing with Wilson.
Wilson allegedly had bloodshot and watery eyes, and admitted drinking. She was determined to be under the influence and was placed in custody.
