A Smithville man is in jail after allegedly striking a former girlfriend several times and endangering a newborn baby. Sheriff Patrick Ray told the Smithville Review that 34-year-old Randal Christopher Evans of Highland Drive, Smithville, was arrested on October 19, for domestic assault, child abuse and neglect, and public intoxication. He is under a $19,000 bond and he is due to appear in court on November 3.

Sheriff Ray said that a deputy responded to Old Snow Hill Road on a report of a domestic disturbance, and made contact with the female victim in the case. Authorities say that Evans assaulted his ex-girlfriend by striking her in the face and back of her head multiple times while she was holding her newborn baby.

Sheriff’s officials also claim that Evans did adversely affect the health and welfare of a child less than eight years old. The woman reported that as she turned away to place the newborn in the crib, Evans struck her in the back of the head multiple times, placing the child in danger.

Deputies report that the woman had multiple marks, bruises and knots on her head area, as well as blood. Blood was also found around the baby’s pillow and around the crib. Evans had fled the scene before deputies arrived.

Shortly afterwards, Evans was located walking on Nashville Highway, near Old Snow Hill Road, and authorities say he smelled of alcohol and allegedly admitted to authorities that he had been drinking. He was placed in custody.

On October 22, 51-year-old Vickie Lenae Alvis of High Street, Alexandria, was charged with driving on a revoked license, fifth offense. She is under a $5,000 bond and she is due in court on November 10.

Alvis was observed driving on Broad Street in Smithville and the deputy had prior knowledge that the woman did not have a valid driver’s license. After a traffic stop, Central Dispatch confirmed that she had four prior driving on revoked convictions dating back to 2013.
