Man Charged with Sexual Contact with a Minor

A Michigan man has been indicted for allegedly having sexual contact with a 17-year-old.

Authorities say that on April 3, 40-year-old William Ryan Hudgins was indicted for sexual battery by an authority figure. He is under a $75,000 bond and is due to appear in court on May 2.

According to the indictment, on or about the 1st day of January 2023, in DeKalb County, Tennessee, Hudgins did unlawfully and intentionally or knowingly accomplish sexual contact with a child 13 years or older, but less than 18 years of age, (17-year-old born February 10, 2005) by use of parental or custodial authority over the victim in violation of state law.

In Criminal Court news, a man accused of helping steal a bass boat and motorcycle has pled guilty in the case.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department arrested a couple of people in connection with a stolen motorcycle and a bass boat in November 2021.

On Tuesday, November 16, 2021, 30-year-old Haley Dawn Wright of Midway Road, Smithville, and 40-year-old Scotty Brian Heard of Chestnut Ridge Road, Spring City, TN, were arrested for theft of property.

According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, Wright was found to be in possession of a tan 17-foot bass boat at her residence on Midway Road. A check through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) confirmed that the boat was reported stolen out of Red Bank, TN, on October 20, 2021.

Authorities say that on the October 13, 2021, the sheriff’s department was called to a home on Highway 70, in the Snow Hill area, in reference to a stolen 2006 Harley-Davidson Road King motorcycle. A report was taken and entered into NCIC.

Later that evening in White County, the Sparta Police Department stopped the motorcycle with Heard found to be the operator. He was taken into custody for multiple charges, and the owner received the motorcycle back. There was damage to the motorcycle and parts missing, at an estimated cost of $2,270.

On April 10, 2023, Heard pled guilty to one count of theft over $2,500, and one count of theft of property over $1,000. He was sentenced to two years in the Tennessee Department of Corrections two run consecutively, but concurrent to a case out of Bledsoe County. He will also be required to pay $2,270 restitution.
