Man cleaning gun shoots through wall

A man who was cleaning his gun has been charged with reckless endangerment after it went off and the bullet went through a wall and into his neighbor’s residence.

Gilberto Ledesma Cervates, 47, was arrested for Reckless Endangerment. Police responded to Miller Road in reference to gun shots. Upon investigation it was determined that Cervates, while cleaning a gun, accidentally discharged a semi-automatic 9mm handgun from the bedroom of an apartment complex. The bullet projectile traveled through the wall and into another adjacent apartment room, while occupied, placing others in imminent danger of death or serious injury.

 

 In other arrests by Smithville Police over the past couple of week:

Dominic Leon Pasley, 20, was arrested for Possession Schedule VI with Intent to Sell and cited for Driver’s License Violation, Financial Responsibility, and Drag Racing. Police observed two vehicles at the red light beside Mapco which appeared to be drag racing. The officer initiated a traffic stop and upon approaching the vehicle the officer could smell an odor of Marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The officer requested and was granted permission to search the vehicle and found a small black bag inside a baseball glove in the rear area of the vehicle that contained 6.9 grams of THC wax also known as (DAB) along with 12-1ml vials of liquid THC. Upon investigation it was determined that Pasley and a juvenile passenger had been selling the product. Upon questioning it was determined that Pasley had been drag racing with a white Ford truck and a computer check with Central Dispatch revealed Pasley was driving on suspended license and he could not provide insurance.

 

 

Samantha Bee Florida, 36, of Liberty was cited for Criminal Trespass. Police responded to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with Wal-Mart Security and was informed that Florida was seen on camera shoplifting and that Florida was banned from Wal-Mart property on 6/3/17 at which time she was cited. The shoplifting incident will be taken care of inhouse by Wal-Mart.

 

 

Lacy Lee West, 36, was arrested for DUI. Police responded to McDonalds regarding a vehicle that had been swerving all over the road. The officer observed the vehicle leave McDonald’s and turn onto East Bryant Street where the vehicle crossed into the opposing lane and back. After driving about 200 feet the vehicle crossed back into the opposing lane at which time the officer made a traffic stop. Upon approaching the driver, identified as West, the officer smelled a strong of an alcoholic beverage on her person, her speech was slurred and she performed poorly on all sobriety tasks given.

 

Adam Micheal Whitecotton, 21, was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine and Resisting Arrest and Matthew Allen White, 23, was charged with Criminal Trespass. While on routine patrol on Highland Street the officer observed Whitecotton and White sitting in a vehicle in front of a residence that White had previously been told to stay away from. The officer asked Whitecotton to step out of the vehicle and the female driver also got out of the vehicle without being asked and approached Whitecotton. For his safety, the officer asked them if they had any weapons or anything illegal on them. The officer asked Whitecotton if he could pat him down and Whitecotton reached into his pocket. Again, for the officer’s safety, the officer leaned Whitecotton on his patrol car and he began to fight with the officer all while keeping his hand in his pocket after being told to take his hand out of his pocket. The officer then took Whitecotton to the ground and placed him in handcuffs and then found him to have in his possession a gum wrapper which contained 0.4 grams of a powdery substance believed to be methamphetamine.

 

 

Angelina Marie Farley, 39, was arrested for Driving While License Suspended or Revoked and cited for No Tag Lights, Expired Tags, and Financial Responsibility. Farley was spotted on W Broad St with no tag lights illuminating the tag. Upon speaking with Farley, the officer discovered that she didn’t have a license due to them being suspended on 9/20/15 for failure to pay violation out of McMinnville and had previously been cited for Driving on Suspended on 3/23/19.
