A man who slammed into a tree, three cars, ran through a ditch and then hit a grove of downed trees after sloshing through a muddy field says he doesn’t remember even getting into his vehicle.
The driver, Patrick Lee, 51, suffered noncritical injuries as result of the wild ride that began when he got behind the wheel of his 2009 Buick Enclave Thursday morning at Town Edge Village Apartments off Kendra Drive.
Police were summoned to the scene just before noon Thursday to investigate the report of an out of control car slamming into cars at the apartment complex. When they arrived they found three cars damaged in the parking lot and Lee’s wrecked Buick nearly 300 yards away in the middle of a field across the way from the parking lot where the damage had been done.
Lee, who was injured in the assortment of crashes, was taken to St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital for treatment. During questioning as police tried to ascertain what caused the incident, Lee admitted he could not even recall getting into his vehicle, let alone hitting the other vehicles.
The incident remains under investigation by the Smithville Police Department.
