An Eads, TN man is facing a litany of charges after battling and injuring three different deputies.

According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, 36-year-old Steven Wallace Morris of Donelson Drive, Eads, TN, was arrested on September 25, on three charges of assault against a first responder, driving under the influence second offense, drug paraphernalia, vandalism under $1,000, resisting arrest, filing a false report, open container, simple possession of .13 grams of marijuana, and implied consent. He is under a $33,500 bond and is due in court on October 13.

Sheriff Ray said that a deputy responded to South Tittsworth Road on a report of a vehicle backed into a ditch. Upon making contact with Morris, he became belligerent and violent. He was reportedly unsteady on his feet and had an odor of alcohol. Morris also stated that he had not been driving the vehicle, but eye witnesses stated that Morris was indeed the driver.

Multiple containers of alcohol were found inside the man’s vehicle, as well as a baggy containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. A colored glass pipe was also found, and Morris then refused to submit to field sobriety tasks. He had been convicted of DUI on September 2, 2017, in Lafayette County.

Morris placed his hands on another deputy, and at that time reasonable force was used to place him into custody.  During the scuffle, the man put a dent in the back right quarter panel of the patrol car with his knee. In the back of the patrol car, Morris allegedly began flailing his arms and kicking at the doors. During the struggle, two deputies were kicked in their head, causing bruising.

Another deputy transported Wallace to the DeKalb Emergency room for a blood draw ordered by a search warrant due to the DUI charge. Upon arrival at the ER, Morris again became combative with law enforcement. While escorting Morris to the ER, he began to resist officers. Officers used reasonable force to control the man. Morris grabbed the deputy’s right wrist and would not release it causing injury.

In other sheriff’s news, on September 12, 53-year-old Billy Eugene Cook of Floyd drive, Smithville, was arrested for public intoxication. He is under a $1,500 bond and is set to appear in court on September 29.

Sheriff Ray said that a deputy responded to Cantrell Lane, Smithville, in response of a call of a suspicious person in the caller’s yard. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Cook, walking in front of the Cantrell Lane residence. Cook told the deputy that he was trying to get to a destination and believed the home was where it was at. Authorities say that Cook had glossy eyes and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.

The homeowner stated he wanted Cook removed from his property. He was trespassed from the property and due to him being a danger to himself and the public he was taken into custody.

That same day, 25-year-old Bradley Cole Emberton of North Judkins Lane, Smithville, was arrested for aggravated assault. He is under a $25,000 bond and he is due in court on September 29.

A deputy was dispatched to North Judkins Lane for a report of a domestic. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a female who advised that she and her husband, Emberton, had gotten into an argument. The victim stated that during the argument, Emberton pulled out a black .380 pistol out of his pocket and stated that he did not care to kill her. Emberton allegedly admitted to brandishing the firearm during the argument. A black Ruger LCP pistol was recovered from the scene.

Also on that day, 33-year-old Megan Elizabeth Murphy of Spartman Road, McMinnville, was arrested for driving under the influence first offense. She is under a $1,500 bond and she is set to be in court on September 29.

A deputy was patrolling McMinnville Highway when he observed a white Chevy Colorado driving with no headlights and failing to maintain its lane of travel. Upon initiating a traffic stop, the deputy made contact with the driver, Murphy, who reportedly had glossy eyes and a strong odor of alcohol. She was also reportedly unsteady on her feet while standing.

The woman allegedly admitted to consuming four to six beers earlier in the evening. She submitted to field sobriety tasks, but performed poorly. She was also cited for light law violations, misuse of registration, and failure to maintain lane of travel.

On September 13, 44-year-old Eureka Elizabeth Conners of Circle Drive, Dowelltown, was arrested for filing a false report. She is under a $3,000 bond and she is due in court on September 22.

A deputy was attempting to serve a warrant and made contact with the subject’s wife, Conners. She stated several times that her husband was not inside the residence. The subject was found to be at the home and was arrested, and Conners was arrested for giving a false report.

On September 15, 42-year-old Joseph Paul Deskins who is reported as homeless, was arrested for driving under the influence first offense. He is under a $1,500 bond and is due in court on October 13.

At 1:27 a.m. a deputy noticed a man, Deskins, passed out in the driver’s seat of a maroon Chevy truck. When the deputy woke Deskins up, he noticed an open Budweiser in the cup holder, and one empty and one full in the floorboard. The deputy asked Deskins to step out of the vehicle and the man stumbled and had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. He also performed poorly on field sobriety tasks.

On September 18, 66-year-old Dennis Lee Maxwell of Oak Place Drive, Smithville, was arrested for aggravated assault. He is under a $10,000 bond and will be in court on September 29.

A deputy responded to Oak Place Drive on a report of threats being made to a caller. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a man who stated that he and his neighbor, Maxwell, had been in a verbal argument over his fence. The victim stated that Maxwell pointed a gun at him and threatened to kill him during the argument. The deputy observed video footage of Maxwell holding a firearm during the argument.

On September 22, 24-year-old Deviyon Quawnyah Johnson-Griffith of Ellisworth Street, Gary, IN, was charged with theft of property, and criminal simulation of forgery. He is under a $105,000 bond and is set to be in court on October 6.

Sheriff Ray said that Johnson-Griffith attempted to cash a forged check $2,070.52, at Liberty State Bank in Liberty, from Cedar City RV. It was confirmed by the company that the check was forged. The case was investigated by a detective with the Sheriff’s Department with assistance by Alexandria Police Chief Chris Russell.

On September 25, 25-year-old Andrade Ricardo Angulo of Bell Street, McMinnville, was arrested for sexual battery. He is under a $45,000 bond and he is due in court on October 13. Authorities say that Angulo made unlawful sexual contact with a female without her consent.

That same day, 41-year-old Brandy Lynn Bass of Circle Drive, Dowelltown, was charged with domestic assault. She is under a $2,500 bond and she is due in court on October 13.

A deputy responded to Circle Drive in response to possible physical domestic. The deputy made contact with a male who advised that he was trying to retrieve his food stamp card from Bass but she refused to give it back. Bass allegedly ripped the man’s shirt and scratching his abdomen.
