Smithville Police are searching for a man who attempted to rob a local convenience store on Wednesday, August 20, 2019.
The wannabe robber was dressed in all black with pantyhose over his head and face armed with a fork-like knife.
A store manager told the Smithville Review nothing was stolen or damaged before the would-be thief ran from the store.
“The Comcast man was in the store, and he went to the bathroom to hide,” said manager Carelis Haynes. “The guy went up to a woman who was in the store and said, ‘Give me your money.’”
“I don’t work here,” the woman responded.
The attempted armed robber repeated the command but was given the same answer. At which point, he walked around the store then ran out the front door.
Police immediately responded and began to search the area near and around the convenience store located on Highway 70 East.
Because of the close proximity to Smithville Elementary and Northside Elementary, the schools were put on soft lock-down, and the children were escorted to their buses at the end of the school day.
The search continues for the man on the run.
