Smithville Elementary Pre-K Form, May 19
Pre-K Registration forms for the 20232-2023 school year can be picked up on Thursday, May 19 from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Smithville Elementary. This will be done in a drive-through fashion. Completed registration paperwork will need to be returned to Michelle Burklow at the Board of Education office. Copies of the following documents must be submitted with your registration forms in order for it to be complete: Certified copy of birth certificate, social security card (requested not required), current up-to-date physical examination and immunization record (These must be on a Tennessee Department of Health Certificate of Immunization, which can be obtained from your doctor’s office or the Health Department.) Proof of residency for DeKalb County ( gas/electric bill), Proof of income for all household members. Children who register to attend Pre-K must turn four years old on or before August 15, 2022.

Are you a veteran in need of assistance? DeKalb County has a Veteran's Service Officer ready to help you, not only with filing claims, but for conversations about your service.
Retired military service officer Bill Rutherford is located on the first floor of the DeKalb County Courthouse and is ready to offer assistance. He is available for in-office visits each Tuesday and Thursday or can be reached by telephone at any time at 615-560-3610.

A DeKalb County Neighbors Helping Neighbors Blood Assurance Drive will be Monday, May 23 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. in the parking lot of the County Complex next to South Congress Boulevard on the mobile Bloodmobile. All donors will receive a choice of a “Be Brave” t-shirt. Donors will also be entered into a drawing to win a “Walt Disney Trip”. Sobriety Checkpoints, May 27
The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting a Sobriety Checkpoint May 27th on Route 56 in DeKalb County. The Tennessee Highway Patrol recognizes that sobriety checkpoints are highly visible and effective tools in the battle against impaired driving.
DeKalb County Schools Art Exhibit, May 28
The DeKalb County Schools Art Exhibit will be Saturday, May 28 featuring works of local art students. The annual event, sponsored by the Smithville Study Club, will be held from 1-3 p.m. at the DeKalb County Complex at 712 South Congress Boulevard. The public is invited to attend. Smithville L.B.J. &C. Head Start is now accepting new students for the 2022-23 School Year. Children 3-5 years old are eligible for the Head Start program, but spaces are limited and parents are encouraged to apply now. There is no cost for families who choose to participate in the program. DeKalb County Fire Department Fish Fry, June 4
Engine 65 of the DeKalb County Fire Department in Liberty will be having their Fish Fry Fundraiser on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at DeKalb West School, 101 Bulldog Lane, Liberty, TN. It will begin at 4 p.m. with the auction to start at 7 p.m. There is a All ou Can Eat Menu with Fish, Chicken, Gumbo, White beans, Slaw, Fries, and Hush Puppies. Adults meal is $12 and kids $6 with children 3 years and under eat free.

Commodity Distribution, June 23
The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency will hold a commodities distribution for DeKalb County on Thursday, June 23, 2022, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the DeKalb County UCHRA office. Sign-up will be available at the distribution site. The Upper Cumberland Human resource Agency does not discriminate in the basis of age, race, sex, color, national origin, religion, or disability in admission to, access to, or operations of its programs, services, or activities. This project is funded under a Grant Contract with the State of Tennessee.
Smithville Church of Christ Work Camp, June 13-16
Members of the Smithville Church of Christ will be rolling up their sleeves and pitching in to help show their Christian love for others during the congregation’s annual Work Camp scheduled for June 13-16. The Work Camp is an annual home rehabilitation/beautification project organized by the Smithville Church of Christ. The church began the Work Camp as a means of helping less fortunate residents of the county do some fix up and cleanup projects around their homes. The Smithville Work Camp concentrates its efforts in the Smithville-DeKalb County area. If you would like to have your home considered for the project, contact the church at 615-597-4159 by Friday, June 10 to acquire an application and release form. The church is located at 520 Dry Creek Road, Smithville. Applications are also available at local banks.
