Nearly two weeks after the body of a missing Putnam County was found floating in Center Hill Lake, the man’s vehicle has now been located under the murky water.
According to DeKalb Sheriff Patrick Ray, on Tuesday April 19, 2022, a 2013 Chevy Malibu was recovered from the water at the Cookeville Boat Dock ramp in DeKalb County. The vehicle belonged to 37-year-old William Houghtaling Jr., of Baxter, whose body was found was found floating in the water at the Johnson Chapel Boat Ramp on April 6, 2022.
Hightailing had been reported missing out of Cookeville by the Cookeville Police Department in March 2022.
Authorities recovered the body on April 6, near the Johnson’s Chapel Recreation area. According to Sheriff Ray the body was discovered by a fisherman in about 3-4 feet of water, and was nude, except for the pair of socks he was wearing with a small wallet tucked into the socks. The wallet contained identification.
The case is being investigated by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. No other details will be released at this time.
