Ladies Auxillary @ Amvets Post 101, Nov, Dec.

We meet the second Sunday of every month at 2 p.m. all guest welcome. On November 13 we will be having a fish fry for Toys for Tots at 3182 Sparta Hwy, Smithville starting at 2 p.m. with a $10 donation for meal or bring a $10 gift for boy or girl from newborn to age 12, serving local families. We will also be delivering our Turkey Baskets to Bell Street Apartments on November 23, 2021. A fund raiser for fruit baskets for our local nursing home on December 18, 2021. Fall Church Bazaar, Nov. 5

The United Methodist Women’s group of Smithville First Baptist and Bright Hill United Methodist Church is hosting a Fall Craft Bazaar and bake sale for the dates of Friday, November 5 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Saturday, November 6 from 9 a.m. to noon. It will be held at the Christian Fellowship Center, located at 102 West Church Street. We intend to follow Social Distancing Guidelines, wearing a mask is appreciated for everyone’s safety. DeKalb Emergency Services Association (DESA) to Prepare and Deliver Thanksgiving Day Meals

The DeKalb Emergency Services Association (DESA) and volunteers will again be preparing and delivering Thanksgiving meals to the needy and underserved on Thursday, November 25th. DESA will accept names of persons requesting a meal through Thursday, November 18. To get your name on the list call or text 615-390-0297, 615-712-4286, or 615-390-0189. Volunteers may call or text if you wish to help prepare or deliver the meals. Monetary donations may be made at Wilson Bank & Trust or to any DESA member. Call 615-390-0189 for Venmo.

Haven of Hope Golf Tournament, Nov. 6

The Haven of Hope Golf Tournament will be November 6 at the River Watch Country Club. The cost is $75 per player or $300 per team. Tier winners, hole prizes, door prizes & a $1,000 hole in one prize. 8th Annual Chili Supper and Silent Auction, Nov. 6

The 8th Annual Chili Supper and Silent Auction to benefit the Angel Tree Fund and Alexandria Fire Department will be Saturday, November 6th from 11:00am-6:00pm. Located in Alexandria at the DeKalb County Fairgrounds inside the Kenneth Sandlin Center. All proceeds from the Silent Auction will go directly into an Angel Tree Fund. DeKalb County Reginal Planning Commission, Nov. 8

Will have a public hearing on Monday, November 8, 2021 at the DeKalb County Courthouse for the purpose of receiving public comment regarding the following: Removing portions of Parkway Drive, Shady Drive, 2nd Street and Allen Street from the county road list and transferring ownership of those sections to the City of Smithville. The public hearing will begin at 6 p.m. in the downstairs courtroom. All citizens are invited to attend. Get a flu shot! The Tennessee Department of Health is urging all Tennesseans who have not yet received a flu shot this flu season to get one as soon as possible. Tennessee county health departments are holding special “TN Fight Flu Day” vaccine events in every county to increase the number of people vaccinated across Tennessee. The DeKalb County Health Department will observe TN Fight Flu Day on Tuesday, November 9 on the south side of the courthouse from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Help protect your family and others from influenza by getting a free flu shot.

Smithville Senior Center, Nov. 10

The L.B. C. & J. Development Head Start Central Office and Head Start Centers will be closed November 11, 2021 in observance of Veteran’s Day.

 

DeKalb County Blood Assurance Drive, Nov.18

A DeKalb County Blood Assurance Drive will be Thursday, November 18 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Ascension Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital inside the Bloodmobile at the hospital parking lot. All donors will be given an “Adventure Awaits” t-shirt and entered for a chance to win a “2021 Side-by-Side” Save time by answering your health history questions the day of the blood drive before you arrive. Download “bloodassurancequicksreen” on your phone and answer the questions online. This will save you about 10 minutes wait time on the bus. 27th Annual DeKalb County Angel Tree Project Signups

The 27th Annual DeKalb County Angel Tree Project signups are coming soon. Friday, November 5th has been chosen as the application date. There are NO EXCEPTIONS. Application time is from 8:00 am until 7:00 pm at the First Baptist Church Life Enrichment Center under the carport. Applicants must be DeKalb County residents. Children from birth to no older than age 12 by December 25, 2021 are eligible. You must bring photo identification and a bill with the correct current DeKalb County address of the person applying. You must also provide social security cards and birth certificates (Mother’s copy is okay) for all children listed on the application. Guardian paperwork for temporarily placed children is acceptable. Documents are returned to the applicant, only the application is kept. Please make sure you fill out the application as completely and accurately as possible. If an applicant cannot appear in person, their application can be submitted by someone else as long as all of the required information and documentation is presented. Come prepared with all of the necessary documentation to complete your application between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm on Friday, November 5th. This is the only day that applications will be available and accepted. NO EXCEPTIONS. Due to continued COVID 19 issues, face coverings are required and social distancing practices will be observed. The next Grand Jury will meet on Monday, the 15th day of November, 2021, at 8:30 a.m.

 

DeKalb Schools to be Closed, Nov. 22

The remainder of the 2021-22 school calendar is as follows: Schools will be closed on the following dates: Thanksgiving November 22-26; Christmas Break December 20-31 (Friday, December 17 to be an abbreviated day) (Monday, January 3 a stockpile day- no school for students) (Students return to school Tuesday, January 4); Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day January 17; Presidents Day February 21; Spring Break March 28 to April 1; Good Friday, April 15; The last day of school will be May 23 ( Administrative Day May 20).

 

Sobriety Checkpoints, Nov. 26

The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting a Sobriety Checkpoint on November 26, 2021 on US Route 70 in DeKalb County.

There will be a meeting on December 7, 2021 at 6 p.m. upstairs at City Hall for anyone interested in learning about the 2018 International Building codes. Refreshments will be provided.

 

Grief Support Group

Are you interested in a Grief Support Group? We are concerned about all the losses in our area. If you or someone you know, would be interested in a group this fall call 615-597-4673. Let us know if a day or night group would be best for you. Also, would you need child care? There is no charge for support groups. We do offer individual grief counseling. If there is no insurance coverage we have a sliding fee scale and some scholarships.
