Benefit Fundraiser, June 8

There will be a Benefit Fundraiser for Jordan Looney at White County Ag. Building on June 8, 2024 starting at 11 a.m. There will be a spaghetti dinner, Live Band at 3p.m. and a Silent Auction and a 50/50 Raffle throughout the event. Jordan has had brain surgeries and was sent home with a PICC line in order to receive antibiotics. He had not worked for 13 weeks. He was released to go back to work on April 1st. He has a 5yr, 4yr, 1yr and 10-month-old little boys. His wife is a stay-at-home mom. Jordan has continued to preach through this ordeal and trying to do his best. Mount Holly Decoration Day, June 9

Decoration Day for Mount Holly Cemetery will be Sunday, June 9, 2024. The Mount Holly Cemetery Association will meet in a regular business meeting on June 9 at 1:30 p.m. in the cemetery. Donations will be taken at the cemetery or may be mailed to: Darlene Evans, 1820 Student Home Rd., Smithville, TN 37166.

Bonham Decoration will be held June 9, 2024. Donation will be accepted from 12:30 to 2:30 or anytime at First Bank.

 

Veterans Service Officer Ready To Assist

Are you a veteran in need of assistance? DeKalb County has a Veteran’s Service Officer ready to help you., not only with filing claims, but for conversations about your service. Officer Erica Degni is located on the first floor of the DeKalb County Courthouse and is ready to offer assistance. She is available for in-office visits each Tuesday and Thursday or can be reached by calling 615-597-3003. DeKalb County appreciates the service of all veterans and is proud to provide this

Battle of the Bats Fundraiser for the Last Minute Toy Shop, June 7 & 8

Battle of the Bats, a fundraising event for the non-profit organization the Last Minute Toy Shop, will be Friday and Saturday, June 7 & 8 at the Bill Page Ballpark in Smithville. Times are 6 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. on Friday, June 7 and 8 a.m., 9:40 a.m., 11:20 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:40 p.m., 4:20 p.m., and 6 p.m. on Saturday June 8. First and second place team trophies will be awarded after the final game and bragging rights for a full year. Each game has a one hour, 30 minute limit. If the seven innings are not finished at the end of the 90 minute mark, the team in the lead will be declared the winner and will advance to the next bracket. Battle of the Bats has a 10 team limit with 12 member teams. The cost to participate is $10 per player plus one unwrapped toy.

 

Miss Jamboree Pageant June 15

The annual Miss Jamboree Pageant is set for Saturday, June 15, featuring categories from 1 day old to 20 years old.

The first pageant begins at 9 a.m., at the DeKalb County Complex. It is open to all Tennessee girls and baby/toddler boys. The deadline to enter is Friday, June 7.
The pageant is a fundraiser for the Last-Minute Toy Shop.

The fee to enter is $25 per category, plus an additional five dollars for optional categories you may choose to enter, including “prettiest eyes,” “prettiest hair,” “prettiest attire,” “prettiest smile” and “most photogenic.” A “People’s Choice” winner will be named in each category determined by the most money raised in the contestant’s “People’s Choice” box. Winners in the 11-13-, 14-16-, and 17–20-year-old pageants are required to participate in the Smithville Fiddlers Jamboree & Crafts Festival to distribute trophies, flyers, etc.

The categories are:
Boys and Girls – 1 day to six months,
Boys and Girls – 7 to 12 months
Boys and Girls: 13 to 24 months
Boys and Girls: 25 to 48 months
Girls: 4 to 6 years
Girls: 7 to 10 years
Girls: 11 to 13 years
Girls: 14 to 16 years
Girls: 17 to 20 years

First Time Buyer Free Classes

The first time you purchase a home can be confusing and leave you full of questions. What is a mortgage? Should I do a home inspection? What type of home is best for me? Help is on the way! If you have considered buying a home, the First Time Home Buyer Course will teach you everything you need you know to start the process. UT-TSU Extension DeKalb County will host two-session classes with a free meal provided each class. The Free Class is a $99 value, which is the cost for anyone getting a THDA loan who are required to take the class online. And every person or couple who attends both sessions will take home a new kitchen knife set with storage block!! You must attend BOTH sessions to get the class certificate and knife set. The FCE will be meeting the 2nd Tuesday of each month. The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. at the DeKalb County Complex in the Motlow Conference room. Everyone is invited to attend.

Haven of Hope Introduces New Program

Haven of Hope of DeKalb County, INC, 301 West Main Street, Smithville is introducing a new intensive outpatient program called "Finding Hope". Join them on the road to addiction recovery. VBS, Scuba, June 10 -14

The 2024 VBS “Scuba”, Diving into Friendship with God” will be held at Old Fashion Freewill Baptist Church 3005 Blue Springs Road, Smithville, TN, June 10-14 from 6p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Everyone is invited.

What A Mess! VBS

New Home Missionary Baptist Church will be having VBS, “What A Mess.”  “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8. VBS will be held at New Home Baptist Church, 4610 Short Mountain Hwy. Smithville. The dates are June 19-22 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. June 22 will be Fun Day! 29th RC-Moon Pie Festival & 5K Race

Bell Buckle will be all shook up with excitement when the Best Festival anywhere in the world, the Bell Buckle RC-Moon pie Festival and the 10 mile and 5K race delights the masses. This will be June 15, 2024, Saturday from 7a.m. until 5 p.m.

Justin Potter & Alexandria Libraries Summer Reading Program, June 24

The Justin Potter and Alexandria Libraries Summer Reading Program will begin on June 6 and end on June 27. All events for both libraries will be in the DeKalb County Complex Theatre Room at 2 p.m. Children of all ages can begin registering for Summer Reading at both libraries on May 28. Each child that registers and meets their goal will receive a participation certificate and other goodies at the end of the Summer Reading Program.
