A man escaped serious injury but not drunk driving charges when he ran off Nashville Highway Thursday afternoon, uprooted one tree and then slammed into another as his truck flipped upside down.
The driver, Cody Wayne Goad, 23, of Cookeville is charged with DUI and possession of drugs as result of the one-vehicle crash which happened near the Nashville Highway intersection with Tater Knob Road at Liberty.
“He struck a tree and rolled and struck another tree,” said Highway Patrolman Robert Melching who investigated the wreck, noting Goad was eastbound (heading toward Smithville) and had crossed the four-lane highway before running off the road.
Goad was able to extricate himself from the twisted wreckage before help arrived, emerging with only some cuts and a hurt hand. He was taken to St. Thomas DeKalb where he was treated and released. He was then charged with drunk driving and taken to DeKalb County Jail where jailers found hydrocodone and Xanax on his person, netting his possession charges.
