A Nashville man had a wild ride last week after his vehicle ploughed up an embankment and struck a utility pole in Liberty.

According to Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Bobby Johnson, on Wednesday morning, April 14, 21 year old Frederick Standbery of Nashville was traveling north on Highway 96 (Murfreesboro Highway) in a 2006 Ford Focus, when he failed to stop at the intersection of Highway 70, crossed all lanes of traffic on Highway 70, and struck an earthen embankment. The vehicle then continued to the top of the embankment and struck a utility pole, where it came to a stop.

Standbery was seriously injured and had to be airlifted from Ascension St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital in Smithville to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville.

Authorities say that charges are pending an investigation.
