During a special called meeting of the Smithville Mayor Josh Miller and city council members last Thursday night, there was a second and final reading on the amended budget for 2020-2021, which included the new police headquarters which will be under construction very soon.
Chief Mark Collins announced promotions within the police department. Officer Brandon Donnell has been promoted to Detective, Officer Will Judkins was promoted to Sergeant, and Officer Tyler Patterson has been promoted to a Corporal.
In other news, Mayor Miller told the council that Dr. Steven Cooper has resigned from the industrial board. Dr. Cooper took a new job in Chattanooga several months ago and felt he should resign from the local board. Mayor Miller has appointed Renee Steff to fill the open position. Steff is a 2003 DCHS graduate, a graduate of Maryville College, Tennessee Tech University and UT Memphis with a degree in pharmacy. She is currently employed as a pharmacist at Smithville Walmart. The council voted unanimously to accept Steff’s appointment.
Tyler Fulton has been hired by the city to work at Greenbrook Park, while Michael Wiley has been employed for sanitation as Darrel Adkins retired.
