The DeKalb County community recently gathered for a ribbon cutting and Family Open House to celebrate the official opening of “The Spot,” a new youth center located at 425 Golf Club Drive in Smithville.
Open to all 5th through 12th grade students in DeKalb County, “The Spot” offers a safe, fun, and welcoming environment where students can build friendships, enjoy meaningful activities, and feel a sense of belonging. Its mission is to “create a culture that inspires families to embrace healthy relationships, discover their purpose, and influence others through positive action.”
Currently open on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 PM, the center provides a relaxed space for students to hang out, enjoy a free meal, play games, connect with others, and simply be themselves. This summer, “The Spot” will host a variety of engaging sports, games, and camps aimed at keeping students active and involved.
Youth Center Coordinator Kendra Cantrell shared her enthusiasm: “We’re excited to open our doors and show families what ‘The Spot’ is all about. This is a place where students can belong, grow, and have fun together.”
