DeKalb Jr Pro Basketball Signups, Oct. 26
DeKalb Jr Pro Basketball signups will be held in the main lobby of the Dekalb County Community Center on Oct 26th, Oct 28th, Nov 2nd, Nov 4th from 6 pm to 8 pm. The cost is $30 to be paid by cash or check at the time of signup. We will NOT be having signups on the day of tryouts this year. We will NOT be accepting any late signups after November 4th. NO EXCEPTIONS. Please mark your calendar and make sure your child is signed up before the deadline. Boys and girls will play together in Training League. All other leagues are separate with a girls and boys division. You can play your child up in age group but will not be able to play down. Every child is required to attend tryouts. Tryouts will be held Saturday November 6th at Northside Elementary. Tryout times for each age division are as follows. November 6th @ Northside Elementary (Training League) Kindergarten and 1st grade 9 a.m. 2nd & 3rd grade girls 10:30 a.m. 2nd & 3rd grade boys 11:30 a.m. 4th & 5th grade girls 12:30 p.m. 4th & 5th grade boys 1:30 p.m. 6th 7th & 8th grade girls 2:30 p.m. 6th 7th & 8th grade boys 3:30 p.m. If you have any questions or are interested in coaching or sponsoring a team you can give Justin Brooks a call (615) 684-3677. Halloween Downtown, Oct. 29
Many business’s downtown will be passing out treats for children between from noon to 5 p.m. Everyone is invited to come out and visit the business’s in Smithville.
Commodity Distribution, Oct. 28
The Upper Cumberland Humane Resource Agency will hold a commodities distribution for DeKalb County on Thursday, October 28, 2021, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the DeKalb County UCHRA office. Sing-up will be available at the distribution site. The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency does not discriminate on the basic of age, race, color, sex, national origin, religion, or disability in admission to, access to, or operations of its programs, services, or activities. This project is funded under a Grant Contract with the State of Tennessee.
Ladies Auxillary @ Amvets Post 101, Oct, Nov, Dec.
We meet the second Sunday of every month at 2 p.m. all guest welcome. We are going to have a booth at he Boo Bash on the square on October 29, from noon-5p.m. bring your children for a fun family event. We are also having our Annual Halloween Party starting at 6 p.m. prize for the best costume. On November 13 we will be having a fish fry for Toys for Tots at 3182 Sparta Hwy, Smithville starting at 2 p.m. with a $10 donation for meal or bring a $10 gift for boy or girl from newborn to age 12, serving local families. We will also be delivering our Turkey Baskets to Bell Street Apartments on November 23, 2021. A fund raiser for fruit baskets for our local nursing home on December 18, 2021. Trunk or Treat, Oct. 30
New Home Missionary Baptist Church will be having Trunk or Treat on October 30 from 2p.m. to 4p.m. We are located on the corner of New Home Road and Short Mountain road. Everyone is welcome to attend.
The DeKalb County Fair, Oct. 30

Fall Church Bazaar, Nov. 5
The United Methodist Women’s group of Smithville First Baptist and Bright Hill United Methodist Church is hosting a Fall Craft Bazaar and bake sale for the dates of Friday, November 5 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Saturday, November 6 from 9 a.m. to noon. It will be held at the Christian Fellowship Center, located at 102 West Church Street. We intend to follow Social Distancing Guidelines, wearing a mask is appreciated for everyone’s safety. Haven of Hope Golf Tournament, Nov. 6
The Haven of Hope Golf Tournament will be November 6 at the River Watch Country Club. The cost is $75 per player or $300 per team. Tier winners, hole prizes, door prizes & a $1,000 hole in one prize. 27th Annual DeKalb County Angel Tree Project Signups
The 27th Annual DeKalb County Angel Tree Project signups are coming soon. Friday, November 5th has been chosen as the application date. There are NO EXCEPTIONS. Application time is from 8:00 am until 7:00 pm at the First Baptist Church Life Enrichment Center under the carport. Applicants must be DeKalb County residents. Children from birth to no older than age 12 by December 25, 2021 are eligible. You must bring photo identification and a bill with the correct current DeKalb County address of the person applying. You must also provide social security cards and birth certificates (Mother’s copy is okay) for all children listed on the application. Guardian paperwork for temporarily placed children is acceptable. Documents are returned to the applicant, only the application is kept. Please make sure you fill out the application as completely and accurately as possible. If an applicant cannot appear in person, their application can be submitted by someone else as long as all of the required information and documentation is presented. Come prepared with all of the necessary documentation to complete your application between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm on Friday, November 5th. This is the only day that applications will be available and accepted. NO EXCEPTIONS. Due to continued COVID 19 issues, face coverings are required and social distancing practices will be observed. 8th Annual Chili Supper and Silent Auction, Nov. 6
The 8th Annual Chili Supper and Silent Auction to benefit the Angel Tree Fund and Alexandria Fire Department will be Saturday, November 6th from 11:00am-6:00pm. Located in Alexandria at the DeKalb County Fairgrounds inside the Kenneth Sandlin Center. All proceeds from the Silent Auction will go directly into an Angel Tree Fund. Tennessee Master Beef Producer Planned, Nov. 2
DeKalb County Extension will again be offering the Tennessee Master Beef Producer (TMBP) class this fall. This class fulfills the Master Certification requirement for 50% cost share in the Tennessee Ag Enhancement Program (TAEP) and your certification will be valid for three years. This program is also an excellent opportunity for those that have an interest in learning more about beef cattle production. The dates of the classes will be November 2, 9, 13, 16, and 30. All of the classes will be at 6:00 pm in the DeKalb Community Complex Building with the exception of Saturday, November 13 which will be at the Hyder-Burks pavilion on that Saturday morning. Topics will include heifer selection & management, feeding strategies, forages, herd health, beef quality assurance, grazing, conservation, economics, and the retail meat market. The topics will be covered by various Extension Specialists and Industry Experts from across the state. The cost of the course will be $100. If you do not have a BQA certification or yours has expired, that will also be offered on the night of Nov. 16 and does require an additional fee. You can stop by the DeKalb County Extension office at 722 South Congress Blvd., Smithville to register. DeKalb Schools to be Closed, Nov. 22
The remainder of the 2021-22 school calendar is as follows: Schools will be closed on the following dates: Thanksgiving November 22-26; Christmas Break December 20-31 (Friday, December 17 to be an abbreviated day) (Monday, January 3 a stockpile day- no school for students) (Students return to school Tuesday, January 4); Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day January 17; Presidents Day February 21; Spring Break March 28 to April 1; Good Friday, April 15; The last day of school will be May 23 ( Administrative Day May 20).

Let us know if a day or night group would be best for you. Also, would you need child care? There is no charge for support groups. We do offer individual grief counseling. If there is no insurance coverage we have a sliding fee scale and some scholarships.
