A local man has learned if you’re going to cruise around with drugs in your car at night you should at least turn on the headlights.
The suspect, Larry Kevin Murphy, 43, was pulled over this past week by a deputy on South Mountain Street when the officer noticed Murphy was driving without headlights after dark. The officer whirled around and stopped the Ford Explorer and spoke with the driver about his lack of headlights.
It was during the talk the officer spotted a bag of hypodermic needles in the floorboard, prompting the lawmen to suspect something was amiss. He then conducted a search of the vehicle at which time he found two bags of methamphetamine, weighing in at half a gram.
As result of the stop and search, Murphy was arrested for possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. He also had his vehicle seized and the $343 cash he had on him as officers found a set of scales in his SUV, leading them to suspect he might have been trafficking drugs.
