A one-vehicle crash last Friday afternoon resulted in the death of the driver, and a young passenger scrambling for help.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 43-year-old Lannie R. Fletcher was driving a 2017 Ford F150 pickup, west on Snow Hill Road, when the truck went off the roadway, crossing Possum Hollow Road, before launching into the air and hitting a tree. The truck then rolled down a steep embankment, where it came to a final rest.
A 13-year-old passenger was injured in the wreck, but climbed out of the wreckage and up the embankment to get help.
Deputies with the DeKalb Sheriff’s Department, DeKalb EMS, the DeKalb Fire Department, the Smithville-DeKalb County Rescue Squad, and THP responded to the scene.
Fletcher was killed at the scene and had to be extricated from the wreckage. The rescue squad assisted in roping the victim up the steep hill.
