One of two people found with methamphetamine during a traffic stop more than a year ago was sentenced in criminal court on Monday, April 15.
Savannah Elizabeth Derrick, 25, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to sell a schedule II drug (methamphetamine) over 0.5 grams, and received a sentence of eight years suspended to supervised probation and a $2,000 fine. She was also given 37 days jail credit.
According to DeKalb Sheriff Patrick Ray Derrick, Derrick and 28-year-old Raymond Marcelle Marks of Antioch, were arrested on March 9, 2023 after a traffic stop. A deputy, who had prior knowledge that Marks’ license was revoked, witnessed him driving on Highway 70. The deputy conducted a traffic stop. Derrick was a passenger in the vehicle.
During a search, a zipper bag was found in the floor board between the driver and passenger seats, where 10.53 grams of what believed to be methamphetamine was inside the bag. The bag was in reach of Marks and Derrick. Also found on Marks was a Glock 26 9mm pistol.
Derrick got out of the vehicle and went to another vehicle where she retrieved a backpack and tried to run into an apartment. The deputies caught her and obtained a search warrant to search a backpack personal carry bag belonging to Derrick, where a green bag found inside contained 1.088 ounces of a crystal-like substance, also another bag with a crystal-like substance weighing 1.37 grams was found.
The case against Marks is still pending in court.
In another case, 38-year-old Bryan Miles pleaded guilty to possession of a schedule II drug (methamphetamine) under 0.5 grams with intent to sell or deliver and received a six-year sentence, all suspended to supervised probation. He was also fined $2,000 and was given 106 days jail credit.
Angel Petrone, 42, pleaded guilty to burglary and received two years all suspended to supervised probation. She must also make restitution to be determined jointly and severally with a co-defendant.
