The Smithville Police Department has released their crime report for the month of July, with DUIs and domestic cases taking up much of the officers’ time.
On July 3, 2021, 23-year-old Sy Gohs of Lonnie Cantrell Road was arrested for Public Intoxication. Police responded to 256 Hayes Court for a possible intoxicated person. Upon arrival, the officer noticed Gohs to be unsteady on his feet, have slurred speech, and appeared disoriented. Gohs was taken into custody for his and the public’s safety.
The following day, 28-year-old Destry Jordan Wiggins of 2751 Evins Mill Road was arrested for Criminal Trespass. Police were dispatched to 854 Driver Street for an unwanted guest. As the officer approached the residence, he observed Wiggins leaving the area. The officer initiated a traffic stop and Wiggins agreed that he was at the residence before police arrival. Wiggins was advised on June 15, 2021 not to be at this residence.
That same day, 36-year-old Chase Adam Williams of 425 Kendra Drive was arrested for Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest. Police responded to a fully engulfed structure fire at Town Edge Apartments on Kendra Drive. While trying to get the scene under control for safety, Williams was creating a dangerous and hazardous environment, by refusing to disperse. He was yelling and making threats that he was going to get his belongings and that law enforcement wasn’t going to stop him.
After multiple times of trying to deescalate the situation to get him to stop and cooperate, he refused. Williams was then advised that he was under arrest and to place his hands behind his back. He refused to put his hands behind his back and another officer used a hard hand technique to take him to the ground to gain compliance. He was then arrested without further incident.
Richard Wayne Norrod, 27, of 397 Allen Bend Rd was arrested for False Report. Norrod did give officers a false report regarding an incident that occurred at 236 Meadow Brook Drive. He stated that he was the one who assaulted someone at this location when in fact it was another person there at the time.
On July 8, 26-year-old Ernest W. Dodd of 427 Morgan Dr was arrested for Domestic Assault. Police responded to a residence on Highland Street, where they were informed that Dodd had held a hatchet to the victim’s neck during an argument over a cigarette lighter and threatened to cut her fingers off. The victim did have red marks consistent with a cut from a sharp object on her neck.
Mary Sue Streamer, 60, of 851 J E Evans Avenue was cited on July 10, for Dogs at Large. A dog belonging to Streamer ran out of the house and bit a woman on the back left leg twice leaving puncture wounds and bruising.
The following day, Dustin Allen Sullivan, 26, of 874 Robinson Road was arrested for Violation of an Order of Protection. Police responded to a welfare check due to a citizens concern that Sullivan may hurt someone. As the officer walked through the yard, Sullivan walked out of his camper and the officer saw the petitioner of the Order of Protection inside of the camper.
On July 12, 47-year-old Marcie Jean Alsobrooks of Dowelltown was arrested for DUI. Police responded to a welfare check of a possible DUI driver that had driven onto a curb. The officer made contact with Alsobrooks at KFC/Taco Bell, sitting in the driver’s seat of her truck. Alsobrooks had slurred speech and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her person. She was asked and consented to field sobriety tasks to which she performed poorly. It was discovered that she had taken a couple of shots of Vodka before driving. A bottle of Vodka was present in the vehicle on the passenger floor board. Alsobrooks was taken into custody for her and the public’s safety.
Dustin Allen Sullivan, 26, of 874 Robinson Road was arrested on July 14, for Violation of an Order of Protection and Resisting Arrest. Police responded to 874 Robinson Road in reference to an alleged domestic. Upon arrival, the officers saw Sullivan running toward the woods. Upon making contact with Sullivan, the officer attempted to grab his arm, and he pulled back and took a fighting stance against the officer. He reportedly would not listen to commands and tried to walk away. Once Sullivan was in custody, the officer discovered that there is an active Order of Protection between Sullivan and the alleged victim that resides at this residence.
On July 16, 24-year-old Ronald Barbosa Gutierrez of 596 E. Main Street was arrested for Sale & Delivery of Schedule VI and Public Intoxication. Police responded to Wal-Mart for an unresponsive male in a vehicle. After a time, Gutierrez did awake and as he was exiting the vehicle, the officer observed him to have glossy eyes and slurred speech. An open beer in the center console, marijuana cigarettes and a bong were observed by the officer when Gutierrez opened the driver’s door to exit. Also found was some marijuana, weighting 29 grams, along with baggies and a set of scales in the center console.
On July 19, 26-year-old Dustin Edward Kidd of North Carolina was arrested for Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Methamphetamine and cited for Speeding, Financial Responsibility, Simple Possession Schedule III, and Simple Possession Schedule IV. Police observed Kidd traveling 59-mph in a 40-mph zone on W. Broad Street and conducted a traffic stop.
Upon speaking with Kidd, the officer was informed that he (Kidd) was a convicted felon for multiple charges out of North Carolina. An Anderson AR style rifle was seen in plain view laying in the floor on the passenger side behind the front seat. He was asked to exit the vehicle and the rifle was obtained from the vehicle for safety. A further search of the vehicle revealed 1.9 grams of a crystal-like substance believed to be Methamphetamine was found in the passenger side of the vehicle in a black safe along with 5.5 white Buprenorphine pills and 5 blue Alprazolam pills to which he couldn’t provide a prescription for was found in the driver’s side seat. He could not provide proof of insurance either.
On July 22, Paul Allen Willingham 42 of 107 E. Webb Street was arrested for DUI, Possession of Methamphetamine and cited for Simple Possession II, and Simple Possession VI. Police responded to a male subject passed out at Mapco. Upon arrival, the officer observed Willingham sitting in a vehicle with the keys in the ignition and the vehicle running.
After several attempts, Willingham awoke and the officer could smell an odor of Marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. He was asked and consented to field sobriety tasks to which he performed poorly. He was unsteady on his feet and had red glossy eyes. A pat down search reveled that he had on his person .54 grams of a clear crystal substance believed to be Methamphetamine along with 10 Oxycodone pills and 4.5 Alprazolam pills to which he couldn’t provide a prescription for. A search of the vehicle revealed 13 grams of a green leafy substance found in the backseat in a Wal-Mart bag and a red backpack.
Ashley Nicole Mayo, 33, of Woodbury was arrested that same day for Criminal Trespassing. Police responded to 1222 S. College Street for an argument. The officer made contact with Mayo who had been trespassed form the property on September 28, 2020.
Jacob Owen Lackey, 38, of 223 E. Bryant Street was arrested on July 25, for Violation of an Order of Protection. Lackey and a female were at Smithville Elementary School entrance and both stated that they had gotten into a verbal argument. After the officer ran both subjects through Central Dispatch, it was confirmed that Lackey has orders granting bail stating that he is prohibited from using or consuming alcohol in which it was discovered that he had been drinking and also had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person.
On July 27, 20-year-old Shaun David West of 920 S. Mountain Street was cited for Theft of Merchandise. Police responded to Wal-Mart due to West taking items with the intention of leaving the premises without purchasing them. The items were recovered and returned to the store.
That same day, 45-year-old Stephen Jason Moore of 5040 Cookeville Hwy was arrested for Criminal Trespass and Resisting, Stop, Halt, Frisk. While on routine patrol, police observed Moore in the area of 620 Smith Road, where he had been trespassed from on March 1, 2020. The officer knew he had active warrants and when Moore was approached by the officer, he took off on foot and was spotted in the back yard of the residence at 620 Smith Rd. where he was taken into custody. On July 29, 55-year-old Scotty Wilson Eaton was arrested for DUI. Police responded to Village Market about a male subject passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle. Officers arrived on scene and noticed an odor of alcohol coming from Eaton’s person. During investigation, it was discovered that Eaton had drank four beers. Eaton was asked and consented to field sobriety tasks to which he performed poorly.
On July 30, 67-year-old Jeffrey Lee Johnson of Smithville was arrested for Public Intoxication. While patrolling W. Broad Street, Johnson was observed laying in the ditch at the intersection of Anthony Avenue. The officer asked Johnson if he was okay and he became uncooperative and tried to walk away. The officer observed him to be unsteady on his feet and took into custody for his safety.
Billy Joe Cripps Jr., 54, of 459 W. Main Street was cited that same day for Animal Cruelty, along with Felicia Marie Walker, 42, of 455 W. Main Street who was charged with two counts of Animal Cruelty and Dogs at Large. Officers made contact with a dead dog at Cripps’ residence. The dog was chained to the house and wrapped around some metal.
There were no obvious signs that the dog had been watered. The temperature was 92 degrees with a heat index of 98 degrees. Walker had in her possession six dogs, four of which had no water, and two dogs had no shelter. Two dogs were not contained and running at large. Walker did surrender all dogs.
On July 31, Timothy Patrick Wallaker, 56, of Virginia was arrested for Shoplifting and Public Intoxication. Wallaker had attempted to leave Wal-Mart with Mike’s Hard Lemonade and a pack of Natural Ice without paying for the items. The items were recovered and returned to the store. While speaking with Wallaker, the officer observed him to be unsteady on his feet, bloodshot eyes, and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. Wallaker was taken into custody for his and the public’s safety.
