The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department made several arrests last week, including a couple arrested as porch pirates.
Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on August 18, 20-year-old Shiane Hope Gilbert of The Loop Circle, Smithville, and 27-year-old Nathan Joseph Gohs of Dale Ridge Road, Dowelltown, were each arrested and charged with theft of property. Each are under a $5,000 bond and are set to be in court on September 1.
According to Sheriff Ray, on July 27, 2022, Gilbert and Gohs intentionally and knowingly deprived the owner of a residence on Bright Hill Road, Smithville, of a FedEx package containing Advacare containers and products. The total amount of the stolen items in the package were $161.79.
Detectives with the Sheriff’s Department worked the case and were able to link Gilbert and Gohs to the crime.
On August 15, at around 5:51 p.m., 38-year-old Vilot Mae Tucker, who is listed as homeless, was arrested for introduction of contraband into a penal institution. She is under a $5,000 bond and she is due to appear in court on August 25.
A corporal at the DeKalb County Jail, and another correctional officer, went into the side cell at the jail with a medical nurse to check Tucker’s arm, because of a brace she had on her left arm. When Tucker removed the arm brace, a baggy fell out onto the floor. The bag contained a green leafy substance believed to be 6 grams of marijuana. Tucker reportedly admitted to the officers that the bag did contain marijuana.
On August 21, 63-year-old Ronald Glenn Young of Obie Adcock Road, Smithville, was charged with domestic assault. He is under a $7,000 bond and he will appear in court on September 8.
Sheriff Ray said that a deputy was dispatched to Obie Adcock Road for a call reporting a physical domestic. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a female who advised that she and her husband, Young, had been in an argument when it turned physical. The female reported that Young pushed her down to the ground and started hitting her in the face.
The female reportedly had a cut on her right arm, a red mark on the side of her face, and blood on her clothing.
