Local post office hours will soon be updated, as well as many across the state. Smithville’s new hours will go into effect Saturday, August 22.
Louis DeJoy was appointed in May 2020 by unanimous selection of the Board of Governors of the United States Postal Service to serve as the 75th United States Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer of the world's largest postal organization.
Upon assuming office as Postmaster General, DeJoy began taking measures to reduce costs thus cutting back hours and requiring many offices to close an hours during the day instead of being open their normal hours.
Smithville’s new hours will go into effect Saturday, August 22 with the hours as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9am-11am and 12pm-4pm, Wednesday 9am-12:30 pm, and Saturday 9:30am-12:30 pm. The Dowelltown and Liberty post office hours will not be affected.
