Project Graduation Fundraiser this Saturday

A car, truck, and bike show will be held to benefit the DCHS Class of 2022 Project Graduation event on Saturday, April 2 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at DeKalb County High School.

All funds raised will go to Project Graduation, an all-night drug-free, alcohol-free graduation party for members of the DCHS Class of 2022 committed to having a safe, wholesome, yet entertaining celebration together for the last time as a class.

First and second place awards will be presented for best Rat Rods, Street Rods (1948 or older), Best Paint, Best Ford, Chevy.

Mopar: Production and Modified, Special Interest, Trucks/Vans, Motorcycles.

Trophies: Best of Show and Senior Class Pick

Craft/Clothes vendors and food vendors will be available.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. with judging at noon and awards to be presented at 3 p.m.

To all relatives of Whorton Spring Cemetery. This is a notice to ALL relatives of Whorton Spring Cemetery as of this day forward 3-16-22. All items on ground next to a grave site will be removed so that a proper mowing and weed eating can be done. All withered and dead flowers will be removed for proper appearance due to numerous complaints.

Are you a veteran in need of assistance? DeKalb County has a Veteran's Service Officer ready to help you, not only with filing claims, but for conversations about your service.

Retired military service officer Bill Rutherford is located on the first floor of the DeKalb County Courthouse and is ready to offer assistance. He is available for in-office visits each Tuesday and Thursday or can be reached by telephone at any time at 615-560-3610.

DeKalb County Grand Jury, March 28

The nest term of the DeKalb County Grand Jury will meet on Monday, March 28, 2022, pursuant to T.C.A 40-12-105.

“It is the duty of your grand jurors to investigate any public offense which they know or have reason to believe has been committed and which is triable or indicatable in the county. Any person having knowledge or proof that an offense has been committed may apply to testify before the grand jury subject to the provision of Tennessee Code Annotated 40-12-105. The foreman in this county is presently Ms. Katherine Pack, 1 Public Square, Room 201, Smithville, Tennessee, 37166.”

“The grand jury will next meet on Monday, the 28th day of March, 2022, at 8:30 a.m. You may be prosecuted for perjury for any oral or written statement which you make under oath to the grand jury, when you know the statement to be false, and when the statement touches on a matter material to the point in question.”

The United Daughters of the Confederacy, Captain Sally Tomkins 2123 will have its monthly meeting Friday, April 1, 2022 at 1 p.m. in the upper level of the Putnam County Library.

 

 

Banks Cemetery Meeting, April 9

The annual meeting for Banks Cemetery in DeKalb County will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 5 p.m. at Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church. All parties interested in the cemetery are invited to attend.

 

East End Church of Christ Ladies Day, April 9

East End Church of Christ Ladies Day will be held at 102 Edison Street, Mcminnville, TN 37110. Registrations begins at 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. “Peace, the Gift of God: Dealing with Stress God’s Way”, Speaker: Tish Clarke. A lunch will be served.

 

DeKalb County Democratic Party, April 9

The DeKalb County Democratic Party Mass Meeting will be held on Saturday, April 9 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Northside Elementary School cafeteria. All Democratic candidates will be given an opportunity to address the crowd. Refreshments will be served and live music will be provided by Lucas McCoy. All Democrats ae encouraged to attend.

 

Early Voting

The DeKalb County Election Commission has set the early voting hours for the May primaries early voting begins April 13 and runs through April 28 and will be held at the DeKalb County Courthouse in Smithville and limited hours at the Fairgrounds in Alexandria. Early voting hours in Smithville are as follows: Mondays 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Wednesdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Thursdays 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Fridays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to Noon. Early voting hours in Alexandria will be Tuesday April 19th from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday April 25 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. All properly registered voters can vote early at either location. Early voting will not be held on Good Friday.

 

Parkinson’s Support Meeting, April 5

The Parkinson’s Support Group Meeting will be April 5 at 10 a.m. The speaker will be Omari Peeler from Abbive Pharma. He will talk about dealing with off times in medications. We meet at Caney Fork Baptist Church, 2404 Highway 70 East. Call Dennis at 510-7377 with any questions.

The monthly meeting of the L.B. J. & C. Head Start policy Council has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 5, 2022 beginning at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at the L.B.J. & C. Development Corporation, 1150 Chocolate Drive, Cookeville, Tennessee.

 

Sobriety Checkpoints, April 8

The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting a Sobriety Checkpoint on April 8, 2022 on US70 in DeKalb County. The Tennessee Highway Patrol recognizes that sobriety checkpoints are highly visible and effective tools in the battle against impaired driving.

The L.B. J. & C. Development Corporation Board of Director’s will hold their bi-monthly meeting Tuesday, April 12, 2022 beginning at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at the L.B.J. & C. Development Corporation, 1150 Chocolate Drive, Cookeville, Tennessee.

 

L.B.C. & J, closed April 15

The L.B. C. & J. Development Corporation Head Start Centers and the Central Office will be closed Friday, April 15, 2022 in observance of the Good Friday Holiday. The Head Start Centers and office will re-open on April 18, 2022.

 

 

Smithville Church of God, April 17

The Smithville Church of God will again have EASTER IN THE PARK at Green Brook Park on Sunday, April 17. Admission begins at 10 a.m. and everything is free! The event will include a children's church service, bingo, Easter egg hunt, face painting, food, horses, message, and prayer tent. The Easter egg hunt will be for children from toddlers to 12 year olds.
