Property Tax Collections Up

DeKalb County Trustee Sean Driver addressed the DeKalb County Commission at their regular monthly meeting on April 25, telling commissioners that the county as of April 25, is $44,733,185.75 in balance with liabilities and assets. The beginning balance on July 1, was $35,533,280.50.

As for property taxes, Driver said that the county is at 95.64 percent collected. “We are proud of that. It means we have met budget for the 6% delinquency rate,” said Driver. “Friday (April 29) we will be mailing a reminder to those who have not paid 2021 taxes. We will get busy again on May 1 and into May.”

Looking at the same time last year, Trustee Driver said that the county was at a similar percent in collection rates. “One year ago on this date we were at 95.49 percent for 2020. We were just a little bit different, but very close at the same time.”

The 2021 property taxes were due on February 28, 2022. Unpaid taxes are still owed and are accruing an interest and penalty.

In other county news, the County Commission reappointed three members to the Beer Board during the meeting. Myron Rhody [2nd District], Robert Rowe [4th District], and Leonard Dickens [6th District] were all reappointed and approved to serve new two-year terms.

The Beer Board consist of seven appointees, with two-year terms. District appointments are staggered, with the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th district being appointed in odd years, and the 2nd, 4th, and 6th districts appointed in even years.

Other member of the Beer Board include Jim Stagi in the 1st District, Bobby Johnson in the 3rd District, John Hummer in the 5th District, and Johnny King in the 7th District.
