The Smithville Police Department made several arrests over the past few weeks, including arrests for burglary, child neglect and drug offenses.
On March 22, 40-year-old Bradley Shane Redmon of Dowelltown was arrested for two counts of burglary, two counts of theft of property, and two counts of vandalism. A report was taken on March 12, in reference to someone breaking into the car wash maintenance room at 406 East Broad Street and damaging the wash control panel and coin changer, and taking a large sum of money. The hard drive to the security system had also been taken.
On March 21, a report was taken in reference to someone entering the Smithville Elementary School at approximately 2:30 am where a vending machine and a drink machine was broken into. A large sum of money was taken, and the damage to the vending and drink machine left them unusable.
Upon investigation, Redmon was allegedly identified and taken into custody without incident. He is under a $41,000 bond.
On March 13, 29-year-old Alex Wayne Murphy of Alexandria was arrested for DUI, driving on suspended, simple possession, drug paraphernalia, and two counts of child abuse and neglect.
Police were dispatched to Walmart in reference to a male subject passed out in his vehicle. Once on scene, the officer found Murphy slumped over in the driver’s seat holding a handful of white pills, identified as Xanax that was lying in his lap. There were two children in the vehicle, one in the front seat with no shirt and shoes on, shivering, and the other in the backseat half buckled in a car seat that was not connected to the vehicle. The vehicle was turned off and the doors were locked.
After gaining access to the inside of the vehicle, the children were removed and given care, then the driver was awakened. Police say that Murphy had slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet. He was asked and consented to field sobriety tasks, to which he performed poorly.
Murphy was taken into custody for DUI and a search was conducted of Murphy’s person where two cut straws with white residue in them, and a broken spoon with white residue and char on the bottom, was found. A Walmart receipt was also located indicating that Murphy had bought some items at 5:38 pm. The officers arrived on scene at 7:24 pm.
While conducting a DL check with Central Dispatch, Murphy’s license did come back suspended out of DeKalb County. He was in court on March 30 under a $30,000 bond.
On March 16, 40-year-old Anthony Charles Skaroupka of South College Street was arrest for domestic assault. Police responded to a possible domestic and discovered that Skaroupka threatened to choke the victim and threw items around the room, placing her in fear. At one point, he allegedly placed his hands around the victim’s neck, but did not apply pressure or restrict airflow. He was in court on March 30 under a $2,500 bond.
On March 25, 40-year-old Jessica French Hale was cited for trespassing. Police say that Hale entered the Dollar Tree after knowingly being trespassed on October 31, 2022. She was in court on April 13.
On March 31, 44-year-old Rachel Lynn Spurlock of West Broad Street was arrested for DUI 2nd offense. Police were dispatched to Bridgeway Motel concerning a suspicious vehicle. The officer made contact with Spurlock who had gotten into an argument with her boyfriend and drove to this location. The officer did smell an odor of alcohol and she allegedly had red watery eyes and slurred speech.
Once asked to step out of the vehicle, police say she was unsteady on her feet. She was asked and agreed to field sobriety tasks to which she did perform poorly. She was then placed in custody and read the Implied Consent Law which she did agree too. She appeared in court on April 20 under a $2,000 bond.
On April 1, 38-year-old Matthew Dewayne Griffith of Andrew Street was arrested for criminal impersonation and stalking. Police responded to a residence in reference to a report of Griffith attempting to make contact with an ex-girlfriend by knocking on the door and announcing he was the police.
The caller informed the officer that Griffith has been following her from her home to work, constantly knocking on her door, trying to get her to talk to him and leaving unwanted gifts such as flowers on her front door and car. He also left a large banner above her front door with a rose attached to it.
He was in court on April 20 under an $8,500 bond.
On April 4, 38-year-old Wallace Marlon Rackley of West Spring Street was arrested for domestic assault. Police responded to a possible domestic and was informed that Rackley had punched the victim on the right side of her face during a verbal altercation.
The officer did observe a red area and a contusion behind the victim’s ear that is consistent with a punch. Upon investigation, it was determined that Rackley was the primary aggressor and was taken into custody. He was in court on April 20 under a $5,000 bond.
That same day, 42-year-old Brandon Lee Ackerman of East Broad Street was cited for drug paraphernalia. Police were assisting TDOC Probation and Parole and found five plastic baggies with white residue, a grinder with a green leafy residue, a glass pipe/bong with white residue and two plastic straws with residue during a random search of Ackerman’s residence. He was in court on April 13.
On April 6, 69-year-old Michael Zane Ellis of Dearman Street was arrested for DUI and cited for implied consent. Police responded to 719 South Congress Boulevard in reference to a male asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle.
Upon arrival, the officer made contact with and identified Ellis, who was allegedly unsteady on his feet and had slurred speech. Police say that while speaking with him, he kept falling asleep. He was asked and agreed to field sobriety task to which he performed poorly. Ellis did refuse to submit to chemical testing and a search warrant was obtained for a blood draw. He was in court on April 20 under a $2,500 bond.
On April 13, 43-year-old Amanda Lynette Davis was arrested for public intoxication. Police responded to a possible domestic and on arrival made contact with Davis, who was on the ground yelling. When asked a question, Davis was not making any sense in her answers, which made the other officers think she was under the influence of methamphetamine. Davis was being annoying to the public and because of the continuous of yelling while on scene, Davis was taken into custody for her and the public’s safety. She is under a $2,500 bond and will be in court on April 27.
