Christopher Eugene Layne, 32 of Smithville, was arrested on Oct. 9 for fugitive from justice. Layne was found to be in DeKalb County and his name was checked through NCIC and the State of Georgia responded with a hit confirmation. Georgia was then contacted and they requested a hold be placed on him for outstanding charges for taking stolen property in the State of Georgia, which is a felony on June 14, 2019. His bond was set at $50,000.
Jordan Ronald Briesmeister, 19 of Smithville, was arrested on Oct. 5 for violation of order of protection. While on routine patrol, police observed Briesmeister to be at a residence that he was forbidden to be due to an active Order of Protection out of Cannon County. It was found that the petitioner of the Order was there of her own accord and both parties knew that the Order of Protection was still in effect. His bond was set at $2,500.
Samuel Blake Hunter, 24 of Cookeville, was arrested on Oct. 7 for criminal simulation x2 and vandalism. Hunter did attempt to cash two counterfeit checks on Foutch Industries at Disco Tienda Latina. Hunter made the checks on a laptop computer and printed them so that they appeared to have a value and defraud the victim. Hunter also busted the glass of the front door of the establishment causing approximately $500 in damages.
Francis Damian Straughn, 55 of Dover, was arrested on Oct. 8 for public intoxication. Straughn was found to be in the backyard of a residence he did not reside at and was attacking the homeowner’s fence from within the backyard. He was found to be belligerent, unsteady on his feet, had slurred speech, and erratic behavior. He was discovered that he had been kicked out of the half-way house on Oct. 5 and had taken meth on approximately the same day of his eviction. His bond was set at $2,500.
Patrick Gray Gassaway, 21 of Liberty, was arrested on Oct. 9 for criminal impersonation. Police made contact with a passenger of a vehicle that was stopped for a traffic violation. The passenger gave the name of Cory Wright from Illinois. Upon checking with Dispatch, it was revealed that the person didn’t exist. Upon further investigation it was revealed that the passenger was Gassaway and he used the name in fear he would be violated on his probation sentence. His bond was set at $3,500.
Patrick J Striplin, 70 of Smithville, was arrested on Oct. 9 for two counts of aggravated assault, public intoxication, and possession of handgun while under the Influence of alcohol or controlled substance. Police responded to a residence on Odom Street in reference to a neighbor pointing at gun at others. Police spoke with the victims and was informed that Striplin went to their residence and pointed a gun at them because he was upset with them. Upon speaking with Striplin about the incident, the officer observed him to be unsteady on his feet, was belligerent, and had an odor of alcohol on his breath. Striplin was then taken into custody without incident. His bond was set at $22,500.
Jaquantez Shermont Pearson, 36 of McMinnville, was arrested for violation of order of protection on Oct. 12. Police were informed that Pearson was at a residence on Bell Street where the petitioner of an active Order of Protection resided. Upon arrival the officer observed Pearson and the petitioner together in the residence at which time he was taken into custody for violating the order. His bond was set at $3,500.
Robert A Judkins, 28 of Smithville, was cited on Oct. 12 for theft of services. Judkins went to Patti’s Restaurant where he placed an order and proceeded to eat the food then left without paying for the meal.
Jose Gregory Diaz, 42 of Smithville, was arrested on Oct. 12 for DUI and cited for financial responsibility and failure to maintain lane of travel. While traveling east on West Bryant Street, police observed a silver Impala make a left turn onto S. College St. As the vehicle was traveling down the road the officer observed it leave its lane of travel on three separate occasions. The vehicle turned onto Oak Street and the officer initiated a traffic stop. Upon contact with the driver, identified as Diaz, he was found to have slurred speech, unsteady on his feet, and had a strong odor of alcohol on his person. He did perform poorly on all field sobriety tasks administered. Diaz could couldn’t provide proof of insurance. Diaz was taken into custody and a search warrant was issued for a blood test. His bond was set at $2,000.
David Tyler Hutchins, 25 of Liberty was arrested on Oct. 17 for public intoxication and cited for simple possession of schedule II. Police responded to Wal-Mart for possible drug use in Wal-Mart’s restroom. According to employees, the male suspect identified as Hutchins had been disturbing customer and was even observed using a tourniquet and needle. As the officer attempted to speak with him, he became belligerent, acting wild, and refused to identify himself. He appeared unsteady on his feet and seemed slightly disoriented. His bond was set at $2,000.
Dustin Matthew Brewer, 31 of Smithville, was arrested for public Intoxication, criminal trespass, and two counts of vandalism. Police responded to a residence on Forest Ave due to a break-in in progress. Upon arrival the officer made contact with Brewer who was underneath the house. Upon speaking with Brewer the officer determined that he was under the influence of a controlled substance. Brewer was then taken into custody for his and the public’s safety. Brewer did kick out vents on the side of the house to which he didn’t have permission to be at or under the residence. After putting Brewer in the patrol car, Brewer proceeded to kick the passenger back window out. His bond was set at $8,500.
