Sept. 11 Rememberance Ceremony

Smithville City Mayor Josh Miller and County Mayor Matt Adcock invite everyone to attend a September 11 Ceremony on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at 4pm at Evins Open Air Park. Speakers, singers and more will be on hand. Bring your lawn chair and join in remembering and honoring Septemeber 11.

 

Convenience Site Closed

Due to the road construction on Hwy 56 (Mcminnville Hwy), the convenience site located on Hwy 56 will be closed for two weeks from September 9th to September 23rd. The convenience site is expected to be reopened on Saturday September 24th at 8am.

Veterans Service Officer Ready to Assist

Are you a veteran in need of assistance? DeKalb County has a Veteran's Service Officer ready to help you, not only with filing claims, but for conversations about your service.

Retired military service officer Bill Rutherford is located on the first floor of the DeKalb County Courthouse and is ready to offer assistance. He is available for in-office visits each Tuesday and Thursday or can be reached by telephone at any time at 615-560-3610.

DeKalb County appreciates the service of all veterans and is proud to provide this service.

School Calendar for 2022-23 Year

The school calendar is set for the 2022-23 yearDeKalb County students and teachers will have a full week off for fall break October 17-21, Thanksgiving November 21-25, and spring break March 27-31, and a two week break for Christmas December 21 to January 4. December 20 will be an abbreviated day. Students will return to school after the Christmas holiday on January 5, 2023. Schools will also be closed for Labor Day September 5, Dr. Martin Luther King Day January 16, President’s Day February 20, and Good Friday April 7. The last day of school will be May 24, 2023. Report cards will be issued at all schools on October 10, January 9, March 14, and May 24. Parent teacher conferences will be held at DCHS from 3-6 p.m. on October 10 and March 14 and at all the other schools, DWS, NES, SES, and DMS from 3-6 p.m. on October 13 and March 16.

 

Purse Peace Convention, 2022

DeKalb County residents will unite with millions areound the globe to promoe the timely theme “Pursue Peace” as they participate in a six-part annual event scheduled for July and August. All ae invited to attend the event by going to jw.org on the web or JW Broadcasting on the free JW Library app available for iOS or Android, or streaming platforms like ROKU TV.

 

DCHS Class Reunion classes 80-81, Oct. 1

DeKalb County Class Reunion for the classes of 1980- 1981 will be held Saturday, October 1, 2022. Make plans to attend from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Evins Mill, 1535 Evins Mill Rd, Smithville. A noght of sharing memories, lots of laughter, enjoying heavy hord’oeuvres, and listening to music of our decade. Overnignt accomodations are available call: 615-269-3740. Thweatt Reunion, Sep. 4

The Thweatt reunion will be held on  Sunday, September 4, 2022 at the Keltonburg Community Center. A covered dish lunch will begin at 12 noon.

 

Parkinson’s Support Group meeting, Sept. 6

The Parkinson’s support group will met on September 6, 2022 at 10 a.m. We will not have a speaker, but will do break out sessions for those with Parkinson’s and those who are caregivers. L.B. J.& C. Head Start meeting, Sept. 6

The monthly meeting for the L.B.J. & C. Head Start Policy Council has been scheduled for Tuesday, September 6, 2022 beginning at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held via Zoom and in-person at the L.B. j. & C. Development Corporation, 1150 Chocolate Drive, Cookeville, Tennessee.

 

Democratic Party Caucus, Sept. 9

The Democratic Caucus will meet on Monday, September 9, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. in the UT room at the County Complex. The caucus is for the 4th district constable position, and will be an item on the Executive Committee’s regular monthly meeting. The constable position will be on the November 8 ballot.

 

Benefit Fundraiser, Sept. 10

Benefit Fundraiser for Kheela Blair Ditterline will be held on September 10, 2022 at the DeKalb County Community Complex, 712 S. Congress Blvd., Smithville. The Singing Believers will sing at 4:30 p.m. then at 6 p.m. Steve Page and The Simply Southern Band will sing. Admission for Adults is $10, Children $5 (under 10yrs old). This includes choice of a bowl of soup or chili and a drink. Silent Auction: Desserts

 

DeKalb County Neighbors Helping Neighbors Blood Assurance Drive, Sept. 12

A DeKalb County Neighbors Helping Neighbors Blood Assurance Drive will be Monday, September 12 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the County Complex. The blood drive will be on the mobile in the parking lot next to the highway at the Complex. All donors will receive a choice of a “911 Memorial” t-shirt. DCHS Class of 1982 Reunion, Sept. 24

This event will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 11p.m. with meal starting at 6p.m. at the DeKalb County Fairgrounds in Alexandria. The band Zone Status will be there at 6p.m. The cost is $30 per person.
