Pink flamingoes have begun nesting on lawns in DeKalb County as the latest Last Minute Toy Shop fundraiser kicked off. For a donation of $25, you can have your friends and family flocked. The long-legged birds will nest in the yard for one to two days before moving on. DeKalb County Schools
The 2024-25 DeKalb County School Calendar is as follows:
DeKalb County students and teachers will have a full week off for fall break October 14-18, Thanksgiving November 25-29, and spring break March 24-28, and a two-week winter break for Christmas December 23 to January 3. December 20 will be an abbreviated day (7:45 a.m.-9:15 a.m.). Students will return to school after the Christmas holiday on January 6, 2025. Schools will also be closed for Labor Day September 2, Dr. Martin Luther King Day January 20, President’s Day February 17, Good Friday. April 18, and Monday, April 21. The last day of school will be May 23, 2025 (abbreviated 7:45 a.m.-9:15 a.m.). May 22 will be an administrative day.
Report cards will be issued at all schools on October 8, December 20, January 9, March 18, and May 23.
Parent teacher conferences will be held at all schools from 3-6 p.m. on October 10 and March 20.
Homecoming & Revival
Mt. Pisgah Freewill Baptist Church, 7516 Short Mountain Hwy, Smithville will be holding its Homecoming on August 11, 2024 with Bro. Bernard Houk preaching. Singing by Journey Home. Brother Clayton Lee will be preaching nightly at 7 p.m. Journey Home will be singing on August 11.
Veterans Service Officer Ready To Assist
Are you a veteran in need of assistance? DeKalb County has a Veteran’s Service Officer ready to help you, not only with filing claims, but for conversations about your service. Officer Erica Degni is located on the first floor of the DeKalb County Courthouse and is ready to offer assistance. Hunter Education Classroom Course, August 17
All registrants for this event must be 9 years of age by Saturday, August 17, 2024. The course is offered free of charge to anyone interested regardless of age; however, you must be nine years of age or older to become a certified hunter education graduate. This is a 1-day event on Saturday, August 17, from 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the DeKalb County Fire Department located on 782 King Ridge Rd, Dowelltown, TN 37059.This is instructed by: Tony Cross. You must cancel your registration before August 17. Per state and federal statutes, your Social Security Number is required. If you wish to register for this course, but have never been issued a Social Security Number, please call 615-781-6538 for assistance.
The Warren County Genealogical & Historical Association
The program will be Dr. Michael Bradley, Farewell Speeches of the Civil War. Plan to attend our meeting on August 17. Visitors are invited to attend! Time is 2 p.m. This will be held at 201 Locust Street, McMinnville, TN 37110.
FCE Meetings
The FCE will be meeting the 2nd Tuesday of each month. The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. at the DeKalb County Complex in the Motlow Conference room. Everyone is invited to attend.
God’s Grace Ministry Fall Festival, August 17
The Fall Festival will be August 17 at Green Brook Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free entry. There will be a bounce house, food trucks, market, crafts and more.

UCHRA Commodity Distribution, August 22
The Upper Cumberland Human Resource (UCHRA) will hold a commodities distribution for DeKalb County on Thursday, August 22, 2024 from 9 until 11 a.m. at the DeKalb County UCHRA office. Sign-up will be available at the distribution site.
Annual Overdose Awareness Day, August 24
Join us for our Annual Overdose Awareness Day on Saturday, August 24 at 5 p.m.-Dusk at Greenbrook Park at Large Pavilion). There will be overdose reversal training, dinner and refreshments, music, skit performance, glow vigil walk, recovery testimony and community resource tables and more.
