Santa Makes Early Visit

Santa waved to the kids and threw candy as he rode atop Liberty's Engine 65.

Hundreds of people came out to Liberty on Sunday to attend the Liberty Christmas Parade. The event featured floats, antique automobiles and tractors, horse drawn equipment and riders, and even an early visit from old Saint Nick himself.

 

Wilson Bank and Trust won the float competition with their vehicle depicting giant Christmas presents complete with huge bows. The Richie Knowles Family took second place in float competition with their antique John Deere tractor pulling a decorated hay wagon.

 

Alexis Reynolds won first place in kid’s category during for her decorated ATV pulling a little red wagon with Santa's sleigh. Brayden and Kye Carter took second place in kid’s category for their decorated golf cart.

 

Bryan Keith was awarded first place in the antique vehicles category for his 1971 Chevrolet C10 pickup truck. Donny Agee took second place in antique vehicle category for his rubber tire wagon pulled by a team of mules.

 

Others participating in the parade included Grand Marshal Liberty Mayor Dwayne Blair and his family, State Representative Terry Lynn Weaver, and Mr. and Ms. DeKalb County Sean and Christie Driver. The DeKalb County High School Fighting Tiger Band was also on hand to entertain the crowd.

 

Sheriff Patrick Ray and his wife Dessa headed up the procession, which also included the DeKalb County Fire Department, the Smithville-DeKalb Rescue Squad, local constables, and Tennessee Forestry Division with special guest Smokey Bear.

 

Of course Santa Claus followed up the rear of the parade, riding atop of DeKalb Fire's Liberty Station Engine 65, and throwing candy to the children that lined the streets. Afterwards, drawings were held for special prizes.
