Santa did not disappoint as he made his annual appearance in two DeKalb County Christmas Parades over the weekend. Ole St. Nick rode into Smithville on a sled Saturday evening just before dusk and found many little ones awaiting his arrival.
The young and young at heart enjoyed the annual Smithville Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Smithville Fire Department, late Saturday. Several parked along the route to see the parade as it made its way down Highway 56 North then onto the square downtown. Others gathered downtown to get a closer look and scoop up candy tossed to the crowd.
The pandemic virus did seem to affect the participants as well as onlookers, as there were not as many participants in the lineup or the sidelines. But, everyone enjoyed seeing many antique vehicles, decorated side-by-sides, a few floats and several other entries.
Wilson Bank & Trust took first-place for their float entry. Second-place went to the Vintage Owl and Ignite Heating & Air took third-place. The DeKalb County High School Band won the Spirit Award presented by the Smithville Business and Professional Women’s Club.
