A Smithville shopping staple will soon be holding a re-grand opening, offering big deals and giveaways during the celebration. Save A Lot will hold the event on June 7, commemorating its months-long remodeling of the longtime location.

"We've put new coolers in, new cases, repainted and reset the entire store," said Save A Lot District Manager Jeff Ashford. "We've split the isles and put a new floor in. We're wanting everyone to come out and see the new store."

Ashford is no stranger to Smithville or the company he works for. He was born and raised in Smithville and said he started bagging groceries when he was just 16. "I've been with Save A Lot for 34 years now."

"We are going to have special pricing and want everyone to come check it out," Ashford said. "People that shop there we want to come out and see the changes, and people that haven't shopped there, come out and see the sore."

Ashford said that the store will be having a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m., and will be having sales starting that day and lasting four weeks. "We will be having grand opening prices and giveaways, and it will be a big event for the community."

"We spent three months remodeling the store," Ashford explained. "We got the outside painted, then the inside painted. We have a new sign with a new logo. We've put a lot of time and money in to revamp the store. We did this so the employees will be proud to work there and so the customers will be proud to shop there."

Save A Lot was founded in 1977 by Bill Moran as an alternative to larger supermarkets and he opened the first store in Cahokia, Illinois. It is headquartered in St. Ann, Missouri, with about 900 independently owned and operated stores across 32 states in the United States.

Stores carry most grocery products, with an assortment of fresh, canned and frozen produce, meat, meal products, household items and everyday groceries. Save A Lot grocery stores sell national brands and private label brands at a discounted price.

The Smithville Save A Lot location originally opened in 1988, and has been going strong ever since. The re-grand opening will be held June 7, but the celebration and sales will be held all month long.
